Thanks for the insight!
I like the fact that he plays within his role and doesn't overdo things. That's one part of what I meant when I mentioned his mindset. He could easily do more stupid things in order to present himself as a fourth pick but keeps calm instead and plays smart. I understand anyone who might be a little bit impatient - but as someone on the sidelines I really appreciate the way he played up to this point. With his development comes an extended role, that's a safe bet to me.
I noticed all the talk about Exum before the draft, but I thought with all the praise for Payton it's pretty much a non-issue by now. Let's see how things progress. I'll definitely follow the Magic the next seasons because I really like the talent you guys have.
Both AG and Exum are long term projects imo, I believe the Magic needed a quick contributor as a point guard and someone who plays hard defense which made more sense to get Payton and go for a different pick with the 4th.
AG seems to be the guy that won Hennigan over. Why? He plays hard defense and has athleticism/energy which will help on the offensive end.
I don't expect much from Gordon and Payton but Payton will play a bigger role this season due to his NBA readiness and the fact that Dipo has been injured.
I do believe Payton already to be better pg than Ridnour. He will make rookie mistakes and learn the hard way but that's all good. He's been helping the team, just needs to get better at shooting/finishing and he'll be eating good.
