Re: The Trade Thread - v2
Sad to say, but there is very little incentive for Monroe to endure this dumpster fire of a franchise that needs a complete overhaul from the Dumars' era. Its effect is still being felt today in trades and signings that brought Jennings and JSmiss. Unless Monroe wants his max and the five year along with the Bird's rights, he's not staying here, hell, who would?
I would love to trade with Denver since they came out and said nobody is untouchable, clearly there looking to acquire younger, sure-fire talent through picks or maybe trade. Which is what we should be doing outside Dre and maybe KCP. Maybe try to get Lawson or Faried somehow?
I don't have a clue how SVG is going to go from here, since this season so far has been pointing slightly toward bust.

Maybe try a KCP, Monroe and Jennings for Lawson and Afflalo swap. Ive always liked Lawson and now might be the time to get him. Those two would instantly help out in the closing out games department.

Should definitely be giving Denver a call though.

Monroe would likely decline that trade, Denver is more or less in the same situation as us, where they don't know whether to fully bottom out or develop.

Not a bad idea but it leaves us painfully thin at PF/C.
Drummond/Anthony
Monroe/Jerebko/maybe Datome & Mitchell
Iggy/Butler/Singler
KCP/Meeks/Martin
BJ/DJ/Mayor

Would love it for the Pistons. Iggy has one more year left on his contract, right? That would be a good trade.
However, I'm not sure if Warriors would be interested.

If we did pull this off - I don't think GS would do it - we could then move Singler for either a back-up big or a second rounder or something and use the roster spot for Thabeet or a D-League standout PF.
Iggy didn't give Dumars the time of day though as a FA IIRC.

All we'd have to do is offer him a large contract that the Bulls won't match in the offseason.
Agreed! New York Knicks gave up A TON to get Melo when they could have waited a year because Melo had made it known that, that is where he wanted to be. If Pistons wants Butler they would be better served if they wait till next year when he becomes a free agent.

I think Golden State could send us Speights who they would have no use for if they have Lee, Bogut, Smith down low

Re: The Trade Thread - v2
^^ I think you just answered why GS wouldn't do the deal...
They already have PF depth with Lee, Green, Speights, Bogut, and Ezeli....
Why weaken their wings to get ANOTHER big?

Lee and Bogut ALWAYS get injured every season esp in the playoffs.
Smith is also much better defender than Lee or Speights.
They would much rather start Green at SF then use him at PF. Kerr is playing Barnes/Green at 3/4 because of Lee's injury.
The Warriors have PG, SG, SF, C on lock down but Lee is not the type of player a team can rely on to stay healthy. Warriors get rid of a SF that is not clearly working out for them in exchange for a starting caliber big man.
If Lee can stay health who can touch a lineup of Lee-Smith-Bogut in the West in terms of depth besides Memphis.
Also Smith wouldnt be able to take as many shots simply due to the fact that Curry/Thompson account for over 50-60% of total shots taken every game.
This deal may not seem feasible now but if Lee comes back and gets injured again you can bet your ass Golden State is gonna want to find a replacement bc they are not gonna let their season hinge on two injury prone big men in Bogut and Lee

Re: The Trade Thread - v2
All the more reason why GSW would want Monroe since he is a center and can play PF. They give us Speights and Barnes. Iggy and Green man the SF spot for them. Monroe definitely approves to get a chance at a title

Re: The Trade Thread - v2
Smith will only bring us other teams trash and no one is trading anything of value for Monroe when he can just leave after the season. Only way we get anything for Monroe, if he agrees to be traded, is if the team thinks he's the last piece needed to put them over the top.
We are screwed.

Unless you can trade Smith early (NOW) and get ahead to remedying this bleeding. We can still prove that we'd rather be fully committed to Monroe and Drummond for the future. It's just a matter of time that Smith is going to be traded. I don't know how long you can tolerate this play. Even if we lose Monroe in FA we can max another player. It's not the end of the world. There are plenty of players out there that are willing to take the opportunity.

If the Pistons, one of the bottom 10 teams in the league can't tolerate his play, why would any of the other 29 tolerate it for 14m/yr?
It is very likely we are stuck with Smith for the remainder of his contract, unless we send him out with assets, or work some sort of a buyout.
Joe D really dug in deep before he got canned.

Re: The Trade Thread - v2
Best-case scenario for dealing Smith may be if the Lakers go into full-blown "we're not gonna lose in Kobe's final few years here" mode and trade us Nash for Smith.
Something like Smith/Augustine for Nash/scrub filler might really appeal to them.
