The way they built this team is completely wrong. All of a sudden some players find life when Melo is out instead of playing well off him and through him. You build around Melo with strong defensive two way players and shooters. Guys like Novak Shump and Chandler did well with him. Calderon projects to do well next to him. Guys like JR / Stat / Bargs will not. Not taking anything away from their games it's just an epically bad fit to have one way scorers who need the ball in their hands to do well. It's the fantasy framework. Keep adding talent and just assume its gonna work out.
When PJax goes into surgery mode this summer, I assume he's not just looking to add players based on their stats but on how they fit the system and the players who will still be here (Melo, Shump, Calderon, THJ)

might actually benefit him to be sent down just so he can get his swag back. Problem is we are light on able bodies so we might need to Geno him. Throw him to the wolves let him sink/swim

i agree with your whole premise that you can't just keep throwing guys who need the ball into the lineup. but who found life on wed ? our guys hit a bunch of threes. amare was terrible, shump was terrible and jr was mostly terrible till late. but guys are playing with more effort in theses last 2. maybe because when they know melo isn't gonna play that they're gonna have to play a lot harder to try to win.
