Post#1 » by Dodub » Sat Nov 29, 2014 8:21 pm

Why or why not?

Sammy Watkins: 48 rec 684 yards 5 td. Pace: about 1,000 yards 7 tds
Mike Evans: 49 rec 841 yards 8 tds. Pace: about 1,261 yards 12 tds
ODB: 41 rec 609 yards 5 tds in 7 gms. Pace: about 1,044 yards 9 tds
Kelvin Benjamin: 52 rec 768 yards 8 tds. Pace: about 1,117 yards 11 tds
Brandin Cooks: 53 rec 550 yards 3 tds. Pace: about 880 yards 5 tds
Jordan Matthews: 54 rec 686 yards 7 tds. Pace: about 915 yards 9 tds
M. Bryant: 16 rec 321 yards 6 tds in 5 games. Pace: about 642 yards 12 tds

Allen Robinson and Davante Adams have also been solid.

Thoughts?

You know you are just going to get our fan base more worked up because the 49ers didn't draft any of these guys.

I would hope that by this point in the season, reality would have set in and people would get over these guys being on another team. I was pissed about our draft for about 7 weeks and now I'm over it.

Yes, many people had this as the strongest WR draft class in sometime

Just having fun with it, but I expect people are still going to gripe about it, especially since Ward is out injured. I am not giving up on Ward yet, but we could have used one of these receivers. Cooks would have been great.

Definitely one of the best WR classes I have seen in a few years. As many fans know, the 49ers were very interested in Beckham but couldnt agree to a trade up to get him.

Benjamin has looked great but coming out of college wasnt viewed as a finished product by many scouts. The NIners were really interested in Beckham but couldnt agree to a trade up for him. I really wanted Evans, as we badly need a vertical threat, but I knew he was out of reach. Not very many vertical threats in that class though, great players no doubt, but Evans and Benjamin are really the only two that stand out as vertical threats.

After watching him in action, I'm truly disappointed that we didn't make a move for Beckham. That jus is truly great.

None of the 49er WR's could get separation in one on one coverage. Boldin seems to be the only one who can physically win battles. Kaepernick kept trying to throw up the ball to WR's in tight coverage but we don't have a Calvin Johnson type WR to make those type of plays or do we have the speedster to get separation. Crabtree really does look mediocre out there. He can't seem to shake loose even ordinary DB's.

With all the rules changes....not sure you can compare generations of receivers anymore. How many yards and TDs would guys from the 80s and 90s have with today's rules?

These guys would have all just come to the Niners to waste away on the sidelines.

Yep.....I think of a guy like Tarkenton. He threw for 340+ a long time ago......342 I think.

IIRC there were reports that we were REALLY interested in Beckham and would've made a move for him had he dropped further.

I'm not AS disappointed in that as much as I am of us passing on Bradley Roby for a Jimmie freakin' Ward, or taking Jordan Matthews in the 2nd. Brutal.

:nonono: You're the same guy that says the 49ers would misuse a big time WR, yet you still want Jordan Matthews to pair up with Boldin, Crabs, Johnson, and Lloyd? The reason the Eagles primarily use Matthews in the slot is because he can't get off the LOS with a corner bumping him from what I've read. I'd take the former 3 in the slot over Matthews in 2014.

and Bradley Roby, why are you acting like we missed out on him? I rather take Sickness' EJ Gaines over Roby. Jimmy was playing the toughest position on the field without much experience in at the position on his resume. I want to see Ward play his natural position, safety, rather than get thrown to the wolves. Can't give up on Ward that easily.

Landry and Moncrief need to be added to the conversation as well.
Landry: 57 receptions, 518 yards, 9.1 yard average per reception, and 5 TD's. He's also a pretty good return man.
Moncrief: 24 receptions, 390 yards, 16.3 yard average per reception, and 3 TD's.
Landry and Moncrief have improved as the season has progressed after somewhat slow starts (Moncrief didn't see many targets the first several weeks).

Yeah Moncrief hardly plays with Hilton, Wayne, and foolishly Nicks ahead of him.
