Re: College Thread AKA Prospect Watch
Willie Cauley Stein
Have to say I was extremely impressed with this kid tonight agaist Texas.
21 pts
12 rbs
5 steals
3 blocks
I realize he has offensive limitations but I see a potential NBA Defensive Player of the Year type athlete.
Great size and athleticism -- moves so well could guard 3, 4 and 5 position.
Reminds me of DeAndre Jordan with a much better looking shot and a decent handle in open court.
We could sure as hell use a BIG MAN that will defend and bring energy.

About ten days ago Draft Express had Cauley-Stein ranked ninth and Towns ranked third. No way Cauley-Stein stays ninth after his shocking performance against #6 Texas.
Also notice that Calipari played Towns only 16 min and Cauley-Stein double that at 33 min. Calipari obviously felt Cauley-Stein gave the Cats the better chance to win and he was right.
At this point (and it's early) I like Cauley-Stein over Towns.
Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?

1st of all Karl is only 19 and Willie is 21. That's a big difference but he would be a good pick after the top 3.

Re: College Thread AKA Prospect Watch
Cauley-Stein is dumb, like McGee doumb, impressive athlete, but unless he puts it together, and that seems unlikely, he is a back-up
If he does put it together he could be DeAndre Jordan, I think with a pick in the 10-20 he is worth the risk, not in the top10 though.
I dont want anything with Towns, he is just to injury risky for me, his body type is Bynum-esque, actually Bynum is the guy he reminds me the most as of now, a better passer and worse finisher, but similar.
I dont think the Knicks will end up with a high enough pick for Okafor/Mudiay, and for the rest I'd love Winslow and let all the innefficient bad wings we have, Tim, Iman, and JR, go, or trade them, and play Justise at the SG.
Porzingis will be an excellent fit as well.

WCS took Marcus Lee's minutes, who played a total of 4 minutes. Not Towns.

I've seen you post this a couple times, and i don't agree.
Now, his IQ isn't all there. I'm not denying that. I just don;t think its McGee bad.
WCS has shown improvements in his awareness and overall knowledge. He still has ways to go, but other than the eye test showing his improvements in IQ - his turnovers are down, assists are up and he's fouling less, all while playing the same minutes than he has in his past two seasons.
Sam Hinkie crew.

I would much prefer the 21 yr old vs the 19 yr old. More experience. Better body. Great coaching from Calipari. Much more NBA-ready.

Calipari doesnt coach up guys more than AAU coaches do, he is a turrible coach.

Huh? John Wall, A.Davis, D. Cousins, and D. Rose are not great players owing partly to Calipari? They have ALL said Calipari helped them greatly!

He didnt make them better in anyway, other than getting PR, and let do whatever they want to in the court.
Calipari just got great players from HS, because he has the best platform to the NBA, due to pubilicity ect, but as a coach he is really really bad.

Also, depending on where we pick, Jakob Poeltl would be worth looking at. 7', 240 lb freshman for Utah. Good size, athleticism, footwork, and a nice defender in the post and in space. Needs some work offensively, though. Averaging nearly a double double with 3 blocks.

I've seen Jakob play and he's impressed me. Interestingly he's not even mentioned in Draft Express' top 60......why?

Nobody is sure if he's going to enter. Apparently scouts are really high on him, though. I'm a fan. There are a bunch of good articles I can try to find and post later today, if anyone wants.

Phil definitely didnt work any magic. He took on Calderons 3 year over 7mil contract and gave up Chandlers expiring. We got fleeced in that deal.

You forget they Ray Fat Felton and his 2 year deal was also sent to Dallas. Calderon's extra year is bot so bad. Plus did we not get the 2nd rounders that got us Cleanthony and thanasis.

I didnt forget, we gave up the best piece in the deal being Chandlers expiring and took back the worst piece in Calderons 3y over 7m per deal. Feltons deal was around 3.5m for 2 years, it would have been an expiring deal next season. Not only is it half the salary of Calderons it would have been easy to dump being an expiring and at that salary. Now we may be stuck with Calderons cap hold for another couple of years. We also could have really got something for Chandler in my opinion. Not just a 2nd rounder in Early who im not high on at all. We also bought the pick we used for Thanasis if im not mistaken.

As of right now, I can't decide between Okafor and Towns.
