I think it's time to put the "real" into RealGM and make some version of the deal that's been posted ad nauseam on these boards — Smith & Jennings for Deron Williams and filler (hopefully Teletovic). Our package of Smith & Jennings is one of the few realistic ones which could get the Nets out of that god-awful Williams contract (which becomes even worse when he gets traded) without taking on future salary. As for us, let's face it — we suck and Smith and Jennings really need to go, so why the hell not? It's a rare "blow it up" for both teams deal that could benefit each franchise in the long term; they save money, we clear the decks and change our culture.

They aren't adding one of the better values for a Smoove/Jennings trade.

Joe Johnson for Josh Smith, Kyle Singler, Jerebko

Nets save $4 mil off this year's cap (and much more with lux tax) and an additional $6+ mil next year to take on an extra year of Smith's deal. Johnson upgrades our perimeter and provides a huge expiring deal next year.

Man, we could really use Joe Johnson, but I don't think we have the pieces to get it done.

They want young or expiring contracts. We have none of that. Dumars still casts his shadow upon us, laughing as he sees his replacement drown in the vast sea of emptiness he created. Fade to black...

I wish it was that easy. It's looking more and more likely that we'll have to ride out this smith contract.

It's not that far from reality since it saves Brooklyn money because jennings deal being a year shorter. I'm too lazy to do the math tho.

Every million Brooklyn lops off in salary saves them $4M in luxury tax penalty.

Unfortunately I think Stan Van will want to see Meeks with the current squad before he makes any moves - or at least he'll use it as an excuse for not doing anything for the next month or two.

For so long over the summer, Stan Van Gundy salivated over three promising talents in the Detroit Pistons’ frontcourt, so misfit together yet so individually gifted apart, and told executives and agents: Give me this chance to make them right, a season to prove I’ll execute and complement their offensive and defensive skills. Andre Drummond. Josh Smith. Greg Monroe. Just give me the opportunity of a year, and this Pistons’ franchise will survive the consequences, Van Gundy felt.

Several NBA teams had pitched sign-and-trades scenarios to the Pistons’ front office, but Van Gundy responded with a turn-off: The president and coach requested All-Star caliber players in return, league sources told RealGM. In one instance, two other franchises had agreed to a three-team deal that needed the Pistons’ acceptance, delivering Monroe a maximum-level contract. Opposing team executives involved pushed for it. Only, Detroit rejected.

Wish we could make this deal with the Nets

Monroe, Singler, Martin, Smith
for
Joe Johnson, Teletovic

Instantly would solve all our roster problems

Jennings / Augustin
KCP / Meeks - Dinwiddie
JJ / Butler
Teletovic / Jerebko
Drummond / Anthony

I like the Smith/Jennings for JJ. It does save them some money, and they would have a PG when they trade DWill.

I could see a Smith too Nets deal happening soon. They need defense on the wing (lol) and some front court help.they are pretty dumb in that FO as well. If we throw in Monroe they may really consider because then they instantly get a frontcourt seeing as Lopezs health is unreliable and they still want playoffs since they cant rebuild anyways. I want Teletovic as well though in the deal, Hes a great fit next to Dre and we get a go to scorer in Johnson.

Jennings/Augustine
KCP/Meeks
Johnson/Singler
Teletovic/Jerebko
Drummond/Anthony

Problem is that roster would be much improved and mess with our draft pick.

Singler and Martin would have to go to the Nets as they have no one to play SF if JJ comes to the Pistons

Im not worried about our draft situation bc like every year we will win pointless games and jump out of the top 5, even if we keep Smith.

The biggest downside to the trade would be losing money to spend next offseason

Our expiring contracts if no trades are made would be 21M this offseason and JJ making 10M more than Smith eats into that leaving us with only 11M left to find a new starting PF.

Teletovic, while a good fit, is not that valuable esp considering he is an expiring contract that needs a new deal / raise to keep. So that being considered i think we may be able to convince the Nets to take on Jennings as well which would truly let us bottom out while having another 8M, giving us a total of 19M to throw at Dragic.

Dragic - KCP / Meeks - Joe Johnson - Top 10 draft pick - Drummond

A couple games into the season I posted some trade suggestion where we got Johnson and Jack.. I like Johnsons shot creating ability and I still think Jack is solid PG.

Now I don't really want any part of that.. I don't think we would be good enough to turn it around/make the playoffs and I dont think we would continue to lose so many games. It's a recipe for getting the 8th pick yet again . Besides, moving Smith should be for developmental purposes now and next year at least, Johnson would just take all the shots Smith is now+more.
