OT: Feud Between Bulls Players & Thibs May Be Brewing

From the Bulls board

Tom Thibodeau calls Taj Gibson's view a bunch of crap

Taj Gibson and Joakim Noah both cited a lack of trust on the defensive end as a reason for their lack of defense.

Tom Thibodeau said

"That's garbage. That's garbage. Trust, it's work. It's work. That's how you build trust. You got to know what you're doing, you got to be tied together. You got to work at it. It's a cop out."

Taj Gibson responded (From Nick Friedell's twitter):

Gibson responds, understanding that Thibs is entitled to his own opinion:
"That's what I see on the court. I've been here for a while I know what I'm talking about. Joakim knows what he's talking about, he was the Defensive Player of the Year"

"Of course he's going to know what he's talking about. We're on the court, though."

After Thibodeau kinda/sorta called out Rose twice, he went on a rant on Taj Gibson's opinion (and if you saw the video, it really did sound like a rant) that the Bulls had trust issues. His "that's garbage, trust, it's work. It's work" was really said with a real negative sound in his mouth IMO.

After the Bulls simply destroy the Nets, things are likely calmed down a bit, but we've now seen Thibodeau starting to go after guys a bit in the media. Something he's never done in the past. I think if wins don't continue to roll in that there might be a little bit of discontent brewing.

Some of these franchises in big markets thrive on this stuff. Thibs works his guys hard, but I wouldn't count on any of this blowing up on the Bulls. Overwork is a possibility - I see Noah and Rose as particularly fragile. Same with Lebron in Cleveland, he's def being overworked and for the first time in his career, has knee soreness issues.

Thibs might be JUST abrasive enough of a defensive-first coach to eventually have his players tune him out. Most of them are. I was doubting that would be the case, because so far the only known friction was with younger players, but maybe it will hit him too. :D

Management has called out Thibs for riding his guys too hard. This is the first time, I've seen the Bulls play games without energy. Usually, they play every game like its game 7 of the finals. But, all the minutes guys have played, and all the injuries, may have caught up to them.

Thibs is a great coach, don't see this being a real issue here, his team has been hit by injuries and as the players become more consistent with being healthy, so will their defence. Noah + Gibson missed a ton of games combined in this young season, some of the best defenders in the league. He's even turned Gasol into a bonafied defender this year, that speaks volume about his players willingness to buy in

What sucks about all the drama is that these stories will be the talk of the season and the Raptors' success will be overlooked.

Thibs is mentally crippled when it comes to managing minutes.

It's a thing, isn't it? We've seen it with both Van Gundys, hell, we've seen it with KO.

Sounds like it's being blown out of proportion, they're all on the same page whether they like it or not unlike the Lakers.

This reminds me of how Scott Skiles coaching tenure. He would be amazing defensive coach that would create a top ten defense, but after about three years of screaming, the players would tune him out. I think Thibs is better than Skiles and has the championship background with both the Celtics and USA team to hold the team together, but you have to be careful of Noah and Gibson. Those are two team leaders that you don't want to lose in the locker room.

I am still hopeful the Bulls trade Gibson to us. He'd be a perfect starter if we cannot retain Amir.
