Time to Use the R Word
It was a nice run, but it's time for the 49ers to rebuild. They don't have the QB to win a SB, and it's going to take a lot of time to find or develop one. Some of the best players on the team are getting really old (Boldin, JSmith, Gore), or are FAs (Iupati, Culliver, Cox).
I was hoping the defense could've been good enough to carry a crappy offense to a title, but they had too many injuries (and Aldon missed 9 games). They don't have the ammo to do it again next season as bad as the offense is. So here's the list of players from whom I'd move on.
Kaepernick: duh. Should've traded him last offseason. Stupid.
Boldin: won't survive the rebuild.
JSmith: ditto.
Gore: See above.
Dawson: again.
Vernon: Trade him. I can see it now what happens if they don't. He goes off in his contract year, gets a huge contract, gets injured right after signing it and mails it in the rest of his career. Trade him. Draft Devin Funchess.
Brooks: This one's a given.
Move I'd strongly consider:
Sign Ndamunong Suh. The Niners got JSmith as a FA; might as well go that route again. He could play DE in a 3-4 or DT in a 4-3 if they wanna go that route. They'd have plenty of space to make a move like that if they got rid of the aforementioned players.
The only way I the Niners could extend this window of SB opportunity, IMO, is if they trade for Jay Cutler or Eli Manning. Maybe if they signed Mark Sanchez like I wanted 'em to because he's shown he can win the postseason w/ not a lot of receiving talent, but I think rebuilding is probably the better route.

I'd be happy to get suh.... Hope it wouldn't be a monster contract though thus not prohibiting us from extending Aldon.

Rebuilding in the NFL these dont always last very long...We will have a higher draft pick this year.

This team will be fine next season, especially if they land a competent offensive coordinator for starters. The return to health of a lot of injured players: Bowman, Willis, AD, Brock, Dorsey, Vance, Kilgore, will help...Plus another good draft in 2015.

Once again you go to the "everything's fine" mantra because you refuse to accept the fact (and it is a fact) that Kaepernick will never, ever, ever win a Super Bowl. It doesn't matter if the 1988 49ers' coaching staff comes back from the dead (and retirement); Tattoo Man will still find a way to blow it. You can't fix stupid.
The 49ers will not be "fine" with Kaepernick. Nobody ever will be. He's a bust just like RGIII, Cam & al the other QBs who got famous running the football. There's Steve Young, Steve Young 2.0 (Aaron Rodgers), and that's it. Nobody else has ever done both consistently. You're living in such a profound state of denial I don't even know what else to say.

With all the people I mentioned gone, they can easily afford to get both Suh & Aldon. Keep in mind JSmith makes like 9 million or so. Boldin makes over 6; Brooks makes over 7.

More players I hope the Niners try to trade (along with Vernon):
Boone. I never want to see him play in a 49ers' uniform again.
Ray MacDonald. He's going to be very expensive to re-sign after 2015. Let Tank & Dial compete for his spot.

I just dont believe that Kap is damaged beyond repair. I am more in line with what Trent Dilfer and Jerry Rice said, and that is that the 2014 49ers have completely misused Kap - he is NOT a classic pocket passing QB. They need to go back to the Pistol offense of 2012 or actually form an identity on offense and be a running team and have him manage the game. After all, he did go to the Super Bowl in 2012 and to the NFC Title game last year. Do I think Kap is a tad overrated? Yes. But he does not suck and has proven that he can win, IN THE RIGHT SYSTEM.

Broone's productivity actually improved from the first 4 games of this season. As for McDonald, he just turned 30 and is a role player, not a star. Albeit a good role player. I can see where Niners could extend him by 2 years to create some cap room in the process.

He still sucks, and the crap he pulled in the offseason should've gotten him benched or traded anyway. He needs to go.

A role player? He's a starter. I don't know what you mean by a "role player." Good DEs cost a ton of money to re-sign, and I'd rather the team go in a different direction.

Just because he's a starter does not mean he's great or a star. He is more of a role player on the DL.

A role player is like a 3rd down 'back or a WR / TE guy or an OL / TE guy or someone who only rushes the passer on 3rd down or a NT who only plays 1/3 of the snaps or something like that. A starting DE is not a "role player."
But that's beside the point. The point is Ray's an expensive piece of the defense, and his contract is up after 2015. The Niners should trade him & let Dial & Tank compete for the job.

Player trades are very rare. And we signed ray for 5 years 20 mil back in 2011. He is now 4 years older and wont cost now what he did then. So I can see a situation where Niners MAY extend him 2 years to save cap space.

I thought Smith's contract is down to around $3 million these days.....

Fail. One pass away from winning one already, another pass away from getting back to another, in his first two years starting. Destroys your entire post.

Jay "f$%&ing" Cutler?!? I figured everyone was off that band wagon by now.
I would take Kap over Cutler anyday. And I think Kap is overrated too! lol

You're delusional. And that's really dubious, simplistic logic. Jake Delhomme was one pass away from winning a SB too. He sucked.

It's either Jay, Eli, Sanchez, Locker or a rookie QB. Or Gabbert. It's not like the Niners are choosing between Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning.
And with the exception of Gabbert and maybe Locker, all of those QBs are WAY Better than DumbDumb.
