Rockets To Promising Starting Spot To Josh Smith

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Dec 24, 2014 6:02 am

The Houston Rockets will assure Josh Smith that he will become their starting power forward if he chooses to sign with them.

The Rockets previously tried to acquire Smith during the 2013 offseason.

Smith will also receive interest from the Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings.

I just don't trust anything with "Marc Stein" attached to it. Isn't he essentially a Dallas beat writer?

Don't you love how, 1 minor correlation and everyone assumes matches. It happens all time.

The shows today showing Rondo and Howard at Josh Smiths wedding, blahty blah blah. As if that is grounds for an organization to pay millions of dollars. Talk about friends with benefits. Friends with benefits only goes so far, even Steph could only get his brother a spot, didn't mean he could keep it. Its just like that other fiasco with the Knicks I think, were one of the players got mad that they dropped his brother.

Just because Josh Smith can choose, and he has friends, doesn't make it fact. I remember last season there was one just like this, dudes friends were all on the team, so everyone assumed he was gonna go there, I think it was with Clippers, and he went somewhere else.

Fact is that momentum in games is a real thing, while not tangible itself, you can tangibly see the effect it has when teams are on runs and how it can dramatically effect the outcome of games when you can generate any momentum.

Assuming this is true:

Rockets have to be the biggest diqs if they promised Smoove a starting spot when Ariza just arrived and Motiejunas just worked hard to earn his spot.

Yupp, but they have to keep Howard happy and they failed to sign another "big" name (Carmelo, Rondo, Bosh) so I guess this is their contingency plan.

dmo will get more touches in the post coming off the bench... its better then starting and be relegated to shooting 3s(because all post touches belog to Dwight) when his true talents and strenght are postups...hes better off playing 30 minutes a night replacing howard at 5 and josh smith at 4

It's interesting how the Rockets may add a big man, similar to the situation where the Mavericks lost one. They're almost saying, well we have the upper edge on you Dallas, since you traded away your best bench guy, but our new bench guy Donatas will be a force to be reckoned with.

Uh, why would that matter? He's one of the more legitimate reporters out there.

He's also the head NBA reporter for the biggest sports media outlet in the world. Doesn't mean he's omniscient but there's no reason to call BS on it.

Not to mention Terrence Jones, who's had a PER over 19 this year and last and who is almost definitely the better and more diverse player right now.

Exactly.
J Smoove may ultimately end up the starter but I'm not sold that he was promised it.

Meanwhile, the Western Conference arms race continues.

Only a very gullible person would believe a report based on an "unnamed source".
The unnamed source is often not "in the know".
That's just part of being a reporter (being wrong on a regular basis).
They're being paid to put information out there, right or wrong.

When asked on NBA TV about the alleged promise to start, Rockets coach Kevin McHale responded, "Nobody told me that."

As I said, Josh Smith may end up the starter but him being promised that doesn't fit the Rockets' , and particularly McHale's, M.O.

Great start, 21 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.
Smith already more shot attempts (21) than Harden (17), not that Harden needs much to score 32 points.
