ItsDanger wrote:You're in denial if you think the refs didnt screw us over in this game. Look at that review of the goaltending call. He cannot overturn a mistake as Lowry had the rebound wide open on the left side. He was so fixated on handing this game over to Portland, he didnt care how bad it would look.

Yeah, the calls that went our way took ages to review.

Out of bounds on Steve Blake: ref should have called a foul on Lowry, but didn't, so they tried to do everything to give the ball back to the Blazers. In the end it was "inconclusive" even though the ball obviously went off Blake, which was what they were supposed to review.

Goaltending on Batum: quite possibly the easiest goaltending call they'll see in a while, yet it took ages to review for some reason. No other explanation besides the refs trying to find some way to reverse the call.

Personally, I would've kept giving it to JV in the post tonight (in crunch time). I prefer that over Lowry iso's.

Can you ever, ever see that happening with Casey as the coach?

****, this one hurts deep. We had this game going down the stretch until we went ice cold in the fourth.

Yeah, the officiating was not in our favour down the stretch. Not sure how Lowry did not get some of those calls down low going into harms way. Clear path fouls did not go our way. Intentional fouls did not get called in our favour either. But for **** sakes we should have closed this game out in the fourth.

Whatever, no use crying over spilled milk. Onto the next one. I would be happy with a split in the last two games, and just come home.

And the Raps need to be able to adjust when refs aren't giving calls. That's a huge problem which will bite them in the butt come playoff time.

So we have to adjust to opposing teams AND the refs?

He made a few huge shots late. While he can be streaky he is probably our best spot up shooter. Lou is great at creating his own shot but he is not good at getting in position for good shots.

He also played great defense on Matthews.

Damn, that was an unfortunate loss. We played really well this game until that final run from Portland. Looked like Lowry got fouled plenty of times late in that game, with very few of the calls going his way.

At the same time, it looked like Lowry was EXHAUSTED by the middle of the fourth quarter. I think this is where the lack of Derozan really hurts us. Lowry can dominate some teams on his own, but against an elite team like Portland, he needs that help. Look at all the bumps he takes a game (good GOD that bump under his elbow was nasty), from crazy layups to taking charges... it's going to take its toll on a guy. Those open shots he missed late were painful to watch. However, with Derozan, some of that slack is taken off. Lowry doesn't have to drive to the rim EVERY play like he did in this game: you have Demar right there keeping the pressure on Portland, too.

I think, with a healthy Demar, we win this game. Honestly, I think we beat these guys in a 7 game series. They didn't look that great to me. It's a good feeling to know you can beat any team in the league. From what I've seen from this Raptors squad so far this season, I honestly believe we can beat anyone.

Now lets take out Golden State this Friday.

I just need DeMar back out there!..without DeMar, against a Miami in the playoffs , it would be 5/6 games in favor of Wade/Bosh/Deng... I am tired of not seeing DeMar out there, particularly in the 4th!!

The purpose of the rule is to prevent a cheap foul when a player has a guaranteed 2 pts. Therefore, Ross with Lowry under the basket is a clear path. Batum wasnt as Vazquez was initially ahead of him with Ross bearing down as well. Yet both calls went Portland's way because they play in the US. Simple as that.

3 out of 7 losses that this has happened. the 3rd Cleveland game, Chicago away game, and now this game. Raptors playing well for 3/4 with big leads and then just losing it. Damn it.

It will. Look at JV's growth within this season. Look at how he started off and look at how well he's playing now. I'm not going to question Casey's treatment of JV. Whatever he's doing with JV is working. It's going to require some patience.

I wish the refs had read this before the game started:

Explaining the NBA’s Most Misunderstood Rules

Clear Path to the Basket: If a fast break starts in a team’s backcourt and a defender fouls any offensive player when the team is going to score an easy basket, a clear path foul has occurred. When the foul happens, no defender can be ahead of the ball where he could defend against the easy basket.

Illegal Screens/Picks: A screen or pick is when an offensive player gets to a legal position on the court in the path of a defender for the purpose of slowing down the defender or making him change direction. An illegal screen/pick is when the defender does not get into a legal position. When picking a stationary opponent from the backside, you must give that player a step to stop and /or change direction since he cannot see you. If the opponent is moving, you must get to your position and give him enough distance to stop and/or change direction. The speed of the player will determine the distance. You cannot just jump in front of a player at the last second.

Theres no point now in being angry as it will get me no where so I need to take the glass half full approach. We have to keep this effort consistent.

We're a better team than Portland.

Don't give me this contender crap. Portland is not a contender and we all know it.

They'll be done in the 2nd round ...they'll probably get swept like they do every year. All they do is shoot 3's....More than us

We are in no position to be hating on Portland when we haven't even been to the second round in the last decade. You put us in the west and we may not be looking as good as we do being in the east.
We are one of the best teams in the east but competition is mediocre in our conference.

BTW I really dislike the changes made on this site. So laggy on my phone now. I keep hitting the wrong buttons as the page slowly refreshes.
