D'angelo Russell

Post#1 » by Jimmy76 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 4:28 am

D'angelo is a south paw guard with good length at a well known high school in montverde and seems to have nice all around game. What do you feel his potential is?

one of my favorite prospects in his class. he's very smooth with a high skill level and iq. can shoot, handle and pass. also, has PG potential imo since he's such a good ball-handler and playmaker. plays at a great pace and is already a master at the pocket pass so i think he'll be able to play pick n roll. he's 3 ball heavy, but he also has a very good mid-range game with pull ups and floaters. he needs to add body strength to finish better, but he does have phenomenal footwork with all the different types of eurosteps.

he needs to get better defensively though, but he chose the right program as matta is one of the best in college at teaching perimeter D. he needs to get stronger too. osu has a really good S&T program so i think he'll fill out there. he's not a 1 and done prospect but i could see him being 2 and out.

His defense definitely needs work but he has the length and foot speed to do it so Thad will have him ready in that regard. He has some crafty finishes around but I am worried he doesn't have the explosiveness to blow by defenders and finish in the NBA. I'm don't know much about the S&T program because Ross never put on weight but that is more likely on him. On the positive side his passing would be elite for a combo guard and he has variety of finishes and shots in the bag. He seems to be very poised and I think he has a good chance to make it to the next level. 2 and out sounds about right.

After what I saw last night, they better hope he is as advertised.

The team is unable to create offense on their own but I'm not too worried because Thad is one of the better recruiters there is, he will bring in talent. What I'm worried is the lack of development in several players in the offensive category but it might just be the players.

He looked out of sorts vs Marquette; you could tell how frustrated he was with all of his turnovers. OSU took the game over in the 2nd half when they moved Shannon Scott to PG. I can't wait to see what he can do when he settles in.

understandable. he's thin, not that explosive either which is why he relies more so on floaters, euro steps, scoops, and fakes.

Draftexpress has him @ 13 for this draft.

Very reactionary since OSU has only played cupcakes.

Then again, they think Sam Dekker is the best prospect in the B1G.

wow. i expected the overreaction if any after his 32 points this weekend to come from the board, not from a draft site. Angelo is at least a 2 year guy at this point. Whatevs though.

Russell is not as fearless taking contact but what about Goran Dragic comp? I see some Delonte West, too.

Nit picking at its finest. His vision and scoring ability were on full display last night. Hes a lock to go in the lottery. Has some Dragic/Ginobili in him.

Not nit picking at all. I've seen all of his games and he FINALLY had a 1st half against good competition that displayed his strengths. He ain't Ginobili or any of these guys who are talented finishers at the rim.
