So I'm about 3/4ths done with the first draft of what's going to be my first blog post- a brief profile and analysis of the Atlanta Hawks. It's long, and there are a bunch of pictures and videos, but I think it's pretty decent work and I know you guys love to read about basketball. Feedback would be much appreciated- tell me what worked and what doesn't.

My last section is going to be an analysis of the 4th quarter against Memphis and a tidy conclusion that ties the whole "probability" thread into a bow (hopefully) but I'm not spending any more time writing today. Document is a download from dropbox and should work with the most recent version of Word and Pages (including video- let me know if it doesn't).

Thanks guys, and give me some feedback!

Welp, I'll have some reading tonight, thanks!

Total cost of tuition for Spring '15 semester: $5,200

Total cost of textbooks for Spring '15 Semester: $1,200

This is **** criminal.

Economics . . . half the professors out there at top colleges author their own textbooks and require them for their courses. That means small print runs which means low volume on profits. So, they jack the prices to make it worth the printing company's costs and produce a decent bottom line. (They even jack the prices on widely used texts to keep the price on these "vanity" type texts more reasonable.)

Any chance of a version not using dropbox? I have never been able to get my Dropbox account to work and not willing to waste a lot of time figuring out why not.

penbeast, you don't need Dropbox for this. I don't use dropbox either. Click on the link and it should open the article for you. It will also give you the option of doing a direct download once the article opens in your browser as a PDF file.

Kinda OT since I have no desire for creating a thread to ask this question but someone I know just texted me these scoring numbers for Jahlil Okafor:
First 5 games: 15.8 ppg, 36/60 (60.0%), 60.1 TS%, 22.4 pp40
Next 5 games: 19.0 ppg, 39/55 (70.9%), 67.9 TS%, 26.9 pp40
Last 5 games: 22.8 ppg, 42/56 (75.0%), 74.3 TS%, 28.7 pp40

He also asked me whether or not I think he could continue to improve (I say yes) and if he'll be the first player under 20 years old to average 20/10. I say 18/10 at best (I'm expecting more around 16/9) but if he could score 18 is 20 really that far off?

Great job. I noticed a few typos (the only one I can remember now is Al Hareford) and I disagree with your assessment of Jeff Teague (I think his jumper is just dropping now but he's been super streaky in the past) but other than that everything was great. And this is coming from someone who watches more Hawks games than most Hawks fans.

Isiah on NBA TV blaming analytics for bad guys finding places in the locker room, and the 10+ years of iso ball. The new, team ball that San Antonio, Atlanta, and other teams are playing? Nothing to do with analytics, but going back to the old way, and throwing new knowledge out the window. :-?

Yikes. It seems databall was telling us to put 20-10 guys and volume scorers on the floor, or so he claims. :nonono:

If he only knew how poorly he looks in advanced metrics...lol

I wonder if some of the former players who dismiss analytics (for example Barkley once basically called that stuff total BS - well, these weren't his exact words, but he said that it's a waste of time, or something like that), knew how good those stats make them look, if they would change their mind about it (Barkley certainly looks great in those).

What the hell? Somebody really needs to tell him more about the analytics movement in the NBA. I mean this is beyond embarrassing for a player of the game to be this wrong. You may not like them or even completely dismiss them but he's completely wrong here and making **** up.

Not sure where exactly to put this is but this is kinda funny, weird NBA season in a way:

^^Nope but i saw trailers for it.

Anyone see the Seahawks/Packers game. Wow what a collapse one of the worst ive ever seen in any sport. You literally cant play any worse outside of if Rodgers got intercepted for their last conversions before the kick.

King Brady gonna get revenge on that Hawks defense and climb up over Montana

Just saw "Birdman" which is getting a lot of Oscar buzz. The friend I went with thought it was great; I thought it was Hollywood navel gazing which I thought was done better in movies like "All That Jazz" or "The Stuntman."

I am honestly rooting for Brady in this one. I just think it'd be too painful for him to lose 3 Super Bowls in a row.

I sort of see this as synonymous to the 2014 Spurs. Duncan/Pop and Brady/Bill have maintained a world class organization for years on end but haven't seen a title for a while yet. It seems like destiny. Would be cool for the Pats to maintain their organization being the last to repeat by stopping the Seahawks from doing so.

On the other hand, Bill Simmons could shut down the internet if they win.

More stories from our first year of having a JV basketball team. Had homecoming on Friday (a win!), but . . . 5 of our players decided it would be a good idea to leave school early and go out for wings. Then, 5 others pulled in with incompletes and were academically ineligible this week. This left us with 3 players (fortunately 2 of our 3 starting bigs!) so we had to play this week with 3 players off the middle school team and 1 more HS player we talked the principal into letting play since, unlike the others in the wing incident, he hadn't lied about it when confronted.

Lost by 40 last night but actually played a pretty good game considering. One to go . . .

Wow, I'm impressed you can remain so positive. That would frustrate the bajeepers (made-up word) out of me.
