$6m per year for a €1m player.

Congratulations are in order.

Sounds like a not so good signing?

It's a solid signing. Even something of a coup when you consider the circumstances. He is just massively overpaid.

Edit: Don't judge him by how many goals he scores. That's not his strength and he probably won't score many. He only managed to do so in Holland, where every striker scores due to the offensive emphasis of the league.

I don't know anything about this guy. Is he an upgrade over Dafoe? Or was it a terrible move by TFC?

Jozy is a pretty good player. He's strong and has all the physical tools to be a great striker. He just goes through some stretches where he won't score. He should do fine in the MLS, just massively overpaid.

I give TFC 100% credit for the way they managed the Defoe crisis. Instead of selling him for nothing they got a pretty good striker in Altidore. He's no Jermaine but in the MLS, at the prime age of 25, he will definitely make an impact. He also doesn't have a track record of re-occurring injuries so that's gonna be important.

Not to mention he's an American player so you don't have to worry about him leaving anytime soon. Him and Bradly will be a good combo up front.

Supply and demand will always have North American markets paying more for players in Europe's top leagues. That's just how it works.

He's not an upgrade, but at least he wants to be here. He'll do well for us though.

"Altidore has a five-year deal worth less than the reported US$30 million, according to the MLSE boss. "That number, not only it's not correct, it's not close."

http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/tfc-toro ... -juventus/

This has been rumoured, but now it seems like fact.

Giovinco to TFC next week, deal done.

Another boatload of cash, but at least this guy has a pulse - plays for Juventus, scored twice against Verona a couple of days ago in Cup play, isn;'t older than Methuselah. And a number of EPL teams were showing real interest in him. Looks like a strong mid-field for TFC.
Giovinco, who turns 28 later this month, is a versatile player who can play as a striker, winger or attacking midfielder. Nicknamed the LA Formica Atomica (The Atomic Ant), he is a talented playmaker, renowned for his dribbling skills, passing range and free kick prowess.

A native of Turin, Giovinco has played for hometown Juventus since 2006, scoring 12 goals in 91 Serie A appearances. He spent one year on loan at Empoli, and another two campaigns on loan at Parma, where he scored a career-high 15 goals during the 2011-12 season.

He returned to Juventus and scored nine league goals over the past two Serie A campaigns. This year, he’s been limited to just six league appearances (with no goals), but he did bag a brace in Juventus’ 6-1 win over Hellas Verona in the Italian Cup earlier this week.

Giovinco has also scored one goal in 21 games for Italy, and played for his country at Euro 2012 when the Azzurri lost to Spain in the final, and at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. He missed out on playing for Italy at last summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

From the Daily Express yesterday

Arsenal are on alert after Sebastian Giovinco’s agent hinted the forward is willing to leave Juventus in the summer.

Giovinco would be a useful addition to any Premier League club and is seemingly available for just £10million.

Andrea D’Amico assured Juventus supporter's that his client would not be leaving the club in January, but swiftly revealed that a summer exit could be on the cards.

He said: "Sebastian is a Juventus player. He won’t move in this transfer window, then we’ll see in June.”

2019 will never be forgotten because FLAGS FLY FOREVER

he's crap but I think he'll be good at the MLS level as long as his body holds up.

Great signing. Hope to see more of these type of moves to the MLS. Not guys in their late 30s, but guys who are still good and want the paycheck

Cristian Rodriguez from Atletico is also looking for a gig. MLS teams should make a move for him as well
