Closing on a house on Friday and then should have baby number two a few weeks later. So other than that just trying to get the snow shoveled and some spines adjusted if there is a day nice enough to open the office.

I wish I didn't go to school for Criminal Justice. I've been working in the prisons for over a year now (not as an officer) and I've completely burned myself out dealing with inmates.
I'd love nothing more than a regular office job where I don't have to take my shoes off and get frisked when I walk in the door.
Anyone here ever work in a prison?

Oh god Pogue don't even bring up mother nature and her "qualities". Dumping a shitton of snow in this amount of time certainly doesn't count as a quality.

Haha I'm the exact opposite. Ever since I got a job in accounting I'm so bored out of my mind and have so few colleagues that are interested in sports, especially basketball, that I end up on here just to get my fill of sports talk.
Gave my two weeks notice last week though since I'm moving and damn did it feel good. I just got my CPA, but don't think I can go back to accounting willingly. I feel your pain man.

I feel like I could of been fine with accounting if it was the 1950s and a 9-5 job. I'm fine doing my time to live my life.
But so many late nights, and everyone in the world barely thinks your job is more then just punching a calculator. Depending on the owner specifically, most companies treat accountants like a tumor they can't get rid of who they're not sure why they have to pay them salaries.
But yeah, if I'm going to have to work long hours no matter what profession I'm in, I figured might as well go to a hotter job market and something I won't sigh to start my reply when people ask "so what do you do?

I'm in the same boat. I'm an auditor so all my clients are actively upset when I show up. And during busy season there's just no time to have a life. I end up eating dinner at the office while watching the C's on my laptop.
The worst part is everybody thinks I do taxes. I don't even do my own taxes! I'm glad to be moving on.

I hate that league pass is so restrictive. I don't live in the US (technically, based on my credit card and the fact that I have international league pass) so why should I be blocked from seeing a game on AMERICAN national TV? Bull ****.
Good thing I know where to find streams at 4350kbps... which is the bare minimum of acceptable these days.

Things are great recently. After breaking up with my insane ex, I met an awesome girl from Philly who teaches spoken word in the city. Just moved to a new spot with a huge balcony, tons of windows, and with great bars/good near by.
I also got promoted at work, which feels great after working like hell these past two years. I remember being miserable working at a bank four years ago. Working at Randomhouse has been the complete opposite.

I don't see how you guys can deal with accounting. I've taken three college courses and that was by far enough. Anyway I originally went for civil engineering but ended up with a degree in architectural engineering instead. Now I'm going back for IT and hopefully get my CCNA and go from there. Pretty nerdy

Just broke up with my GF on Valentine's day. Used to think that stuff just happens in Movies or sitcoms but it happened. Just don't have the time right now since I'm in Law School and we barely see each other. Really sucks but I really think it would be for the best.

Damn, dude, that's rough. Keep your head up, and remember things will get better. Things may even work out at a later point. It probably is for the best, but it's still going to hurt for a while. Best of luck going forward and hopefully y'all can stay amicable In the immediate future.
As for me, I have had an excellent valentine's day. For all of the flaws this city has, the benefits outweigh them in kind:
First valentine's without a girlfirend went absurdly well. Broke up a barfight earlier and now I'm smoking an L next to my cat and these two women I laid who are passed out. D'Angelo/Erykah on repeat in the background. Never had a menage (also thought it was something that went down in movies, etc but I would never experience); best part is that this was my girl's idea; good times but my cat is upset his sleeping spot got taken. Feel bad for the little guy. He keeps trying to knock my whisky over in protest.
Late 20s are **** ill. Hope I never turn 30.
Living the **** Fresh Prince dream out in Philly, gents.

I have to thank you, Pogue: your posts directly inspired me to say **** it and move to this city with no job, and only a basic plan. Moving out of Boston and out of the corporate world was the best decision I've made in some time. Nothing but good things since I've taken my life into my own hands.

Not a bad idea. Once you get your CCNA you should shoot for your VCP. That's probably most sought after IT certification these days and that's coming from a technical recruiter.

Sorry to hear that. I reconnected with the only girl I dated for years and I had to get away from her the day before Valentines Day. She's a sociopath but I thought she might have changed or been willing to open up a bit more so I could help her (I have a very good understanding of Psychology). It hurts to let someone go but she obviously can not stop lying and manipulating so I'm done trying to help her.
Just know there are plenty of other people out there and life moves on. If things are meant to be, you don't have to worry about or be concerned with the future. I think the more people see that, the less they'll have to worry about with relationships. Focusing on yourself and your feelings is the most important thing in a relationship that is going badly.

Re: OT-Boston Community Thread
I'll jump in here with some stuff about me...
I grew up in Bridgewater. After college I moved to Orlando for an internship at Walt Disney World and never left. Been down here for 13 years now. I think about moving back a lot, then weather like this happens. Well, maybe not quite like this, but you know what I mean. I've adapted to my cold days being in the 50s and 60s. Long sleeves and shorts work best for me! Plus, I don't think the family would ever want to move away.
I still work for Disney. I'm a Workload/Staffing Manager. Essentially my team makes the calls on how many positions we run and how many people to hire and how to hire them (FT/PT/Seasonal/Interns). I love my job. Perfect blend of analytical and operational work.
I've stuck with all my teams from when I was growing up. The only FL team I have adopted is Orlando City soccer. With the Magic struggling they are kind of taking over this area right now.
I'm often asked how I became a Yankees fan, being from the Boston area. When I was a kid, the first game I ever went to was a Yankees-Sox game. I went with my best friend and his family, who are originally from NY. We sat right behind the Yankees dugout and Don Mattingly threw me a ball. Being about 6 years old, he instantly became my hero. He played for the Yankees, so they became my team. I stuck with them ever since. Even in the late 80s and early 90s when they weren't so good. And, of course now, when they aren't so good. As I get older though, I find baseball dropping off my radar. I'm the kind of a fan who needs to be all in. Watching every game, reading about the team constantly. Now that I have a family and my career has taken off, I just don't have the time. The NBA, NFL and college sports have taken up all my time. In the Summer, I spend a lot of time catching up with the family after neglecting them all Fall, Winter and Spring.
Just a little bit about me.

30 degrees (Celsius) and sunny today here in Canberra. That's probably about 80 something in your crazy Fahrenheit speak.
Just thought you might like to know.

Up here in Maine, they talked about getting 18-24 inches of fluffy snow, but, we ended up with just a couple of inches of snow and a lot of wind.....the wind pretty much blew the snow out of my dooryard...hardly had to plow at all!
Not that I'm complaining...we all needed a break from it...It's cold and windy tonight though...20-30 below zero wind chills....
I guess Down East Maine, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick got pounded though?.... But it missed us...

It's unreal. I'm just north of the city and it is six feet+ high snow banks on every square inch of town.
