DEN/TOR Discussing Deal? (Stated by Poster on Trade Board)

Post#1 » by Rapsobsessed7 » Fri Feb 13, 2015 7:09 am

Don't know if it's true, don't know if it's fake, thought some may be interested.

I_Socrates wrote:Take this with a grain of salt but TOR has been discussing a deal centred around Ross, Fields and Hansbrough going to DEN in return for Chandler and Hickson. Don't know details of the picks and players, but I do know Ross is the most valuable piece they are willing to send. Not at all sure whether DEN has been offered this or what they think of it, but TOR has certainly been discussing this internally.

Why I think there's some substance behind it?
- salary outgoing is more or less equal to incoming (within 200k) meaning it won't push us into tax. I tend to believe MLSE will avoid tax In any deal and we are 700k below it.

- 2016 dream. Both Hickson & Chandler expire after next year along with the majority of our other contracts. So if Masai is planning on making a splash that year this would coincide with that plan.

- Needs. Hickson has a 25.1 DRB%, 17.2 TRB% and 3.4 BLK% both numbers are better than Amir (15.2 DRB%, 12.3 TRB%, 2.8 BLK%) & Patt (16.5 DRB%, 12.0 TRB% and 1.5 BLK%). What are our weaknesses? Shot blocking and rebounding. Both improved and Hickson has played C. Chandler is what he is. Defends, hits the 3 but he will compliment the starters better than JJ. Provides the spacing of Ross with better defense this year.

- Denver POV - young player in Ross. Save 9.2 million next year roughly. They are at 68 million next year so gives them some wiggle room.

Obviously Masai knows both players well. I'm just speculating and thinking of reasons why this would make sense. Mods do with it what you will, in all my years of being here I've never seen that poster claim insider knowledge and unless I'm mistaken he isn't a Raptor fan so don't see the reason for making it up.

If this deal was being discussed last year I would have laughed, but the way Ross has been this year I would probably pull the trigger.

I don't hate it. Ross was always in a weird place, a shooting guard asked to be a small forward. He has struggled for us but has a lot of talent. Chandler provides some of the same as ross but in a bigger body and less upside.

I'd have to see all the picks etc involved before saying its a good deal or not, but on surface it has potential....

Makes sense for both sides imo. Denver sheds some salary and gets a young player; Raps add depth at positions of need. Both Chandler and Hickson eat up a lot of this summer's flexibility but come off the books in 2016. So if Masai indeed has his eyes on 2016, this could be viable. Waiting for carl2680 to chime in.

If Ross is the most valuable piece as stated can't imagine it's anymore more than a future 2nd if that.

I'm in the minority, but I'm not willing to give up on Ross yet. He is what he is, a role player. Can go off some nights. Can be invisible other nights. But we need role players to fill out the roster, and I feel he can be more useful than Chandler.

Ross = role player

Chandler = role player (fits our lineup as he's a true 3 and spaces + defends)

Don't see the downside or downgrade.

I wouldn't do that deal unless there were picks coming in as well.

Wilson Chandler is averaging 13.9 and 6 rebounds on 42% shooting and 33.8% from 3.
Terrence Ross is averaging 10.3 and 3.1 rebounds on 41.4% shooting and 36.8% from 3.

The immediate upgrade isn't worth the potential that Ross has. Add to the fact that Chandler has a injury history it's definitely not worth messing up our chemistry.

The point of the trade is to get Hickson. We need more low-post presence going into the playoffs.

Hickson>> Hans (that's why we do it)

Ross' potential >> Chandler (that's why they do it)

We trade 1 potential for 2 birds in the hand. (and apparently some cap space next year)

What about kantEr? He's a 20/10 guy with mins and I think he could be had for Terrence. How would JV and kanter look together?

Kanter has good form.on his jumper and has the range. He's even hitting threes now. I think it works offensively, but I'd be concerned about the defenSe a bit.

Either way he's very talented and solves our backup centre issue, efficient low post scoring and rebounding problems.

Personally don't like it or believe. Don't think Masai is giving up on Ross this Early. If they sent back varied (we obviously would include a pick) it would be good for the future

I'd pull the trigger. Hickson is better than hansbro, so at least we got rebounding covered - he plays big. Chandler is playing pretty decent this year, hits the 3 & defends. We'd definitely make some noise with this move.

I don't like the idea of messing with chemistry mid season. If we absolutely need to trade him, do it in the offseason, and at least aim for picks. I'd take a 20's pick over overpaying for a role player who does what Tross does, slightly more efficiently.

Hickson still has another $5.6M owed next year, and I rather use that money this summer to re-sign Amir. Wilson Chandler is an okay player but isn't a significant enough upgrade to give up on Ross already. It's not a horrible trade but very short-sighted.

I hope this is a rumor and it lights a fire under Ross. He's hit a slump but we really need him to be a legit threat this year.

Kanter would be a MASSIVE nightmare on D playing at the 4 beside JV.

I'd do it if we could find a way to also get the rights to have the better of the DEN/NYK picks in 2016.

I would do the trade.
With Ross' poor attitude and work ethic, his potential isn't as high as you guys may think.

This trade would help us significantly come playoffs and open capspace for 2016. I say Masai should pull the trigger on this.
