Not sure if this was addressed between pages 178 & 280 (I was forced to skip ahead) but losing his Bird Rights wouldn't be hugely significant for a team like us that will be expected to be operating with significant cap space. If his bird rights would be attached, our cap space would be even further reduced prior to signing him due to a larger cap hit.
We would not have the advantage of being able to offer an additional year and a higher annual raise, compared to other teams, but that would also be the case if we didn't trade for him and pursued him as an unrestricted free agent.
It is his UFA status that is the biggest deterrent for me as far as being comfortable giving up significant value in a trade to acquire him
