I remember a time when this board was all about rebuilding by getting super high upside young guys who have star potential. Now they are all about guys like Khris Middleton and dislike most young players that haven't already turned into studs.
Not that I dislike Khris Middleton. I think he's going to be a great role player unless he stops playing hard after he gets his deal or something... but Exum has the ability to be something special.
And yeah, I realize that he isn't dominating the NBA as a 19 year old.
I call it FTD syndrome. When you have a franchise with such little success over two plus decades, even the smallest sliver makes you drunk. In the past week now I've heard people say they wouldn't trade Ersan for Stauskas/Thompson (insisted we get an expiring) and now no to Middleton for Exum. My brain hurts.
I don't get it, but I guess it is what it is.
I personally don't think that Knight-Middleton-Jabari-Giannis-Henson is a title contending core. I think Giannis is going to be very good, possibly great. I think Jabari has the chance to be special if he comes back healthy. I think Middleton could be a great role player and I think Knight is good in the right situation. Henson seems like a reasonable big, but more of a bench player than a starter when paired with our other players.
We don't even know if we have one guy who is going to develop into a superstar yet... one of the two guys that we have who have a shot at doing it is down with an exploded knee.
I think a lot of people are getting ahead of themselves and I agree it is because we are tasting success for the first time in a long time. The same thing did happen right after the FTD year... people were so excited it made them think bringing in Corey Maggette was a good idea.
