Russell, love his game. Mudiay is a bit too risky and his upside doesn't warrant that risk imo

Don't know enough about both to really have a solid opinion but I'm just happy that one of these 2 or Towns is going to be a Sixer in a few months.
The feedback I've received from our fans is they understand we are trying to build something great. Good decisions come from having a broad set of options and making tough calls. We will do it unblinkingly. We have to be willing to take smart risks-Hinkie

Russell was not ranked on most draft boards going into the season. It was thought he would be a 2 year player. Though it was clear he was skilled, he did not look physically ready. He was a lot thinner last year. He was the 12th -15th best HS prospect going into the season, but he's put on some muscle since, and he's been putt'n in work since the beginning of the season.

Oh Chad Ford:
I still have Okafor there. However, I've gotten some strong signals from several sources close to the team that the Sixers are very interested in Mudiay. Before they traded Michael Carter-Williams, I thought they'd likely go Russell because of their desperate need for shooting. But more and more signals now point to Mudiay being the guy. If the Sixers get the No. 1 pick, they are the team most likely to pass on Okafor and take Mudiay No. 1.

The more guys who have franchise level talent at the top of the draft the better, so I hope Mudiay is as good as some hope. He seems to be the prospect of the day at ESPN right now, some interesting reads, but a lot of his stock is going to depend on workouts.

Chad Ford saying there is interest in Mudiay, essentially guaranteeing that there is no way Hinkie drafts Mudiay. I'm hoping that Russell is better than I think he is so it ultimately becomes a toss up on draft night.
I speak the truth.

His sources in the 76ers' front office are defective. Remember when his sources told him the 76ers would pass on Embiid to select Exum?

If they passed on Okafor it would be for Towns, not Mudiay or Russell. His source is probably Larry Brown since he has been going around saying the Sixers are interested in his almost player. The Sixers may well have Mudiay highly ranked, even above Russell, but Chad Ford saying it is a total guess on his part.

Larry Brown is also a joke. Of course the Sixers are going to be interested and do there homework on basically everyone who could go in the top 20 in this draft given the amount of picks they have. If they didn't call everyone at SMU and Mudiay's Chineese team then I'd be worried.

If Russell could improve as much as he has seemed to from high school to college, think about how much he can improve once he gets to the NBA. Also if Myles Turner fell to the mid first round would you guys take him with say the heat pick depending where that falls?

Russell. Trust his game more. If looking for 2 starting guards Russell's versatility should mean more options for pairing him with someone.

This. In my mind, the biggest advantage that Russell has over Mudiay, is he isn't glued to the PG position. He can play SG just as well. More opportunity for success.

I read Ford's articles and chat wraps, and generally enjoy all of the content that he creates, maybe more than any other basketball guy out there, but he has no clue what front offices think.
He knows what they want him to think in a lot of cases, and I have no doubt that he has a lot of connections, but when he says things like "I heard that player X is number 1 on their board" I know that he is saying things that are not based in truth.
He was tremendously wrong on these types of predictions last year. He had no clue that Orlando was going to take Gordon for example last year. He was saying that they were Exum all the way, and then they passed on him.

I agree that that is an advantage, but can he run the point as well as Mudiay? That is an important question too.
I go back and forth between the two of them. I just wish that I could see more of Mudiay.

I think Mudiay is a more "natural" PG but Russell has pretty good passing ability and makes alot of plays for others.
At the next level I envision that Russell is going to be a scorer 1st, but I think could develop into a playmaker as well..similar to what Curry/Lillard have done.
I like Russell's chances at learning how to effectively run the team in BB's system a lot more than I do Mudiay's ability to become a consistent jump shooter.

Why hinder our perimeter game with a ball dominant point guard like Mudiay where we can be more dangerous with multiple perimeter playmakers who can knock down shoots from the perimeter. Russell is just way more versatile on and off ball and a lethal spot up shooter which is imperative when have Embiid and Noel in your front court.

I don't think that will be a problem. Teenage guards have a learning period no matter what they played in college. Some of the best PGs in the NBA played SG as Freshmen in college (Westbrook, Holiday, Bledsoe).

Ha, I don't think anyone can promise you anything. It's impossible to know how talent will perform at the next level. I can promise you that if we get the 2nd pick, people around here are gonna feel real uncomfortable about taking a hyped combo guard out of Ohio State, even if just for superstition. I can also tell you that ET had a fugly looking jumpshot coming out of college and was never a spot up shooter who could space the floor. Russell's jump shot is saucy and that makes a whole lot of difference.
The Sixers have taken so many players who would be amazing if they could shoot from outside, but could never learn to shoot from outside (I'm becoming convinced that only a special few players learn to shoot once they're in the pros). I'm ready to take a guy who already has his shot down. I want us take Russell. I'm probably a little too jacked up right now, but I'd consider taking him at #2.
