Brandon Marshall is only 30 and he still is elite-level...I agree the QB situation must be addressed. Hell no to Geno

You're wrong. There's nothing wrong with what I said. Right side is under 30, wrong side is over 30. That is how the expression works.

I like Marshall a lot too but he is 30 and isn't going to get any better, just worse with age. NO ONE in the top 15 receiving yards is 30. If they do'n't get a QB this year then what? He's a year older and making a lot of $.

I don't think Mariota is going to fall to 6 and if the Jets really want Foles they should trade for him now before the draft.

Big receivers stay productive longer than the small ones. 90% of prime Marshall is still a damn good receiver. He's getting paid not all that much. It took only a 5th round pick to get him, to get a receiver who should be as productive, PROVEN, as one picked, I'd guess, 2nd or 3rd round. And the contract is for two years.

Also, don't the Jets have a commitment to spend not only this year but next year as well per cap rules? Not sure.

Decker and Marshall is a nice foundation. Love those big bodied receiver. Now get a big bodied pass catching TE and a QB and youre starting to look like an offense with an identity.

Percy Harvin and Brandon Marshall are two head cases. Just hope the Jets find a great QB who can keep them in check.

Percy Harvin in all likelihood is getting cut.

His game is based on route running and being bigger and stronger than most cornerbacks. He's never been a burner and the only thing he's going to lose in his 30s is speed. I don't see much of a drop off in production from him if we have a proper NFL caliber QB throwing him the ball.

Has potential to be a pretty balanced and nasty receiving core if everyone stays healthy and Amaro continues to improve. An underrated part of this is that Decker can slide over to that # 2 receiver role he is more comfortable in and Kerley can concentrate on being a slot guy which is his best role.

By trading a 5th round pick?

The Jets have one of the worst passing attacks in the league. They need all the help they can.

I think Amaro was the most productive TE out of the 2014 draft last season. But part of the reason for that is the other rookie TEs were pretty much awful.

Yep no thanks to an absolutely brutal draft by Idzik. Terrible, awful picks is understating the quality of Idziks picks. He would have been better off letting a bunch of old ladies at the bingo parlor pick based on nicest uniform color or most clean cut looking guy they'd be willing to introduce to their grand daughters.

That really was a disaster. The money to spend should fill the glaring holes for now but 2014 draft could've padded the depth chart. We had 12 picks!! Salvaging a decent career out of Calvin Pryor and Jace Amaro will be key.

What I like about this trade is, well, several things.

Marshall is an elite receiver. If not elite any more, than very good.

The Jets basically only had one above average receiver, two if you count the small amount of time Harvin was here, and he's injury prone.

So, the Jets had to address receiver in either free agency or the draft, whether they kept Harvin or not.

Trading for a very good receiver lets them keep Harvin and have 3 very good receivers (unlikely) or cut Harvin, save a few million dollars towards the cap, recover the 4th round pick, replace Harvin with Marshall (upgrade) and eliminates the need to go after the top dollar free agent receivers like Cobb etc.

Now, the Jets could still go after a FA receiver, but they can look for a bargain receiver. Or not.

Now the Jets have flexibility in the draft, in terms of BPA.

Lastly, by getting Marshall in a trade (that cost a 5th, which is what 20% rate of making team?) and a wash with Harvin's $, the Jets still have all their free agent money to focus on the two biggest problem areas - cornerback and offensive line, and also money to spare to try and address safety.

Honestly, as Offensive line and Cornerback seem to have more of a learning curve to them than a lot of positions, I'd hope the Jets get at least one veteran for each, though getting two vets for Offensive line and 2 vets for Cornerback and a vet safety would be ideal. Whoops, and an edge pass rusher.

Then look to draft BPA and some receivers and running backs.

As for us, I am very happy with this trade for Marshall. Probably takes you out of the Amari Cooper sweepstakes.

Raiders take White at 4
Eagles trade up to 6 to grab Mariota
Bears take some d-lineman (there defense is atrocious)

Giants have Cooper fall to them :droop:

Beckham and Cooper on the outside with Cruz in the slot....YAAAAASSSSSSSS

Giants have to take a OL or DL. Too many needs to go with Cooper in this spot.

nah people over think the pick. You don't pass up the best player because of position. You get a chance to get a young cheap stud you pick him and figure it out later.

No offensive line is worth the 9th pick. D-lineman are all 3-4 outside linebackers. No true 4-3 DE.

you can sign franklin or someone for the offensive line in FA and jabal sheard in FA and that solves those problems.

beckham and cooper would be the most inexpensive and dominant receiving corps and cruz in the slot would be deadly.

Let me rephrase..I'd rather get an interior DLineman or OLineman. I don't see Cooper being available and if he was I dont see the Giants picking him

30 is the line. Under 30 is the right side, over is wrong. Thats the way the term works in sports

Only if it's at the Gibson School for he Mentally Challenged. :D

Seriously though this is not the Percy Harvin trade. Marshall is a much better player. His contract is much better. And the timing is better now.

you don't reach in the first round. There isn't a lineman with a top 10 grade in this draft. Rather sign a FA lineman like Orlando Franklin who will have more impact.

And most of the d-lineman project as 3-4 pass rushers. Outside of possibly Gregory who could put on a few lbs to be a 4-3 DE. So most of the lineman don't fit our 4-3 scheme and there is no offensive lineman worth a top 10 pick.

You always pick the best player on the board regardless of position in the 1st round.
