Re: Nerlens Noel will be 2014-2015 rookie of the year
Noel is the only player in the top 5 of all 3 DBPM, DWS, DRtg. Him and Draymond Green are the only players in the top 10 of all three.
Noel, 2nd in DBPM, 5th in DWS, t-5th in DRtg.
Noel, 2nd in DBPM, 5th in DWS, t-5th in DRtg.

I didn't think I'd ever be asking this board a question like this, but what is our strategy on the GB now that the discussion about Noel as ROY is open-season?

So, Noel may be the most dominant defensive rookie of all time, per like popular metrics. I tweeted

Remain modest and wait until Nerlens destroys them

Whole strategy is we do a hinkie style bookmarking on the threads that has unreasonable hate with the Sixers.
We don't hard sell, so we maintain future flexibility and not sound like a homer. But we bring up all those thread ALL AT THE SAME time, just like how Hinkie have all those multiple draft picks in one draft year, once the team starts winning while Embiid and Noel turns out the top 2 rookies in the past 2 drafts. (Wouldn't mind if you post all the links of those threads about how Sixers have a losing culture, is tanking, how Noel and Embiid are damaged goods and so fort.)

Stop trying to hard sell noel (hell, been trying to tell everyone that Noel will outplay Wiggins.). If they watch games, they know. If they don't, numbers don't lie.
The guys who we want to hype are the overrated ones that we could possibly trade for a future lotto. Nice job BTW on the MCW fake bandwagon. Maintain credibility so hype value is strong once a poor rookie pops out.

It's scary to think he'll be turning 21 next month. You could easily see him adding more strength and quickness as he gets older, and with more experience in the league he'll easily become a top 10 center.
The only downside is... he's not a PF, and his game will not mesh optimally with Embiid. Add Towns or Okafor to the mix and there will not be enough minutes for the young big man prospects. Ideally Embiid should be getting 20 minutes at C and 10 minutes at PF, with Noel grabbing the remaining minutes at backup C.

His offensive game right now is every bit as difined as KG was at the same age. So to say that Noel cannot become a PF is saying that KG was a Horrible NBA PF. And I don't think you would be silly enough to say that.

Well, I'm already on record for calling Noel ROY in a separate GB thread. Sorry, but I was provoked:)

Why do you say my take is silly? In your *opinion* Noel's offensive game is as diverse as KG's...I think if we move this comparison to the player comparison forum, most posters would clearly agree with me that it is not.

Btw, I think Noel should by ROY, as his performance *this* year is clearly superior to Andrew Wiggins

KG's offensive game his rookie year was speratic. His offense came mostly on Athletic putbacks. He had no real game outside of 5 feet from the basket. He developed a very good outside game in the next few years. But, his skill set was no better then what Noel's is. And facts bare that out. So to say he is strictly a Center...which you did is ridiculous, and not true.

@davidwho76er, you mentioned *at the same age*, and now you changed your take to in their *respective rookie years*.

Noel, who's less than a year older than Wiggins, can be a PF because of size, quickness, athleticism and IQ. He has underrated stanley hudson (the office) handles and passing ability (see behind the back pass to Jrich for casual fans) and a very promising jumpshot.
And most importantly, he can be a PF because he can defend big PFs, fake PFS,stretch 4s and tweeners.
Optimally, everyone wants a stretch 4 on offense. But Noel's promising offense and ability to be a dominant defender is something we'll take anyday.
Oh, and I don't think he'll ever be as good as KG so I might agree with you on that. KG is just smooth like a guard on offense.

I agree that Noel and Embiid can play minutes together. My take is that it's just not optimal for either (both are ideally Centers with floor spacers), but it's good problem to have regardless. I think I'm referring more to the Draft Thread, where most posters are advocating drafting Towns, in which case Hinkie will have to trade one of them.

Not even close. Noel trns 21 next week. at 21 KG was a 2X all star, and put up 18.5/9.6R/4.2A/.595.
Nerlens is a better defender than KG was at the same age (which is saying something), but KG at 21 was a Sf in a center's body. Nerlens offensive game right now is not in the same zip code as KG at the same age. But Noel is rapidly progressing in all areas.

And you know what else, even IF Noel doesn't turn out to be the best offensive scoring PF...who cares ? As you already stated, Noel can easily defend the PF spot, as well as any other front court positional player. So who cares if he only turns out to be a average offensive player. Plenty of teams have won Championships with average to way below average Offensive starting PF who earned their PT with great defense and rebounding. Noel we KNOW can do that. And will only get better as time goes by.

Oh before i forgot, my conspiracy theory is that Noel is trying hard for us not to get a top 2 pick so we don't land a big man and end up trading him like MCW.
So don't expect him to miss games.

Agree with this. Totally different league KG is compared to Noel on offense.
