LeBron: I Admire How Calipari Takes High Egos, Turns Them Into Team

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Mar 25, 2015 5:35 pm

LeBron James and John Calipari have grown increasingly close over the years after they were introduced by a "family friend" believed to be William Wesley.

James said his close friend and former St. Vincent-St. Mary teammate Brandon Weems was on Calipari's coaching staff at Kentucky for two years, and "I gained even more of a relationship" with Calipari.

"What I admire is how he's able to take, year after year, these high egos coming out of high school and turn it into a team," James said of Calipari. "He makes them believe, not even believe, it's what it should be, that the team is more important than the individual. No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, in order for the team to have success everyone has to buy in.

"I love that about him, he doesn't cap, he doesn't put a cap on his talent, on those guys," James continued. "He gives them the reins if they play the right way, and he wants them to succeed at the highest level. So, you can respect that."

...a report came out recently that Calipari wants to return to the NBA. Coupled with the fact that he had a chance at the Cavs HC job last summer, and the seeming lack of support Blatt had earlier this season, and voila. News. Imply and speculate away

It's actually relevant because there was an earlier report that said calipari is beginning to consider coaching in the nba once again and he already turned down the cavs job before lebron decided to return and hence blatt was hired. If cavs with the talent they have make a playoff run that falls short of a finals appearance than blatt could get fired. Blatt also seems to have a rocky relationship with kevin love who could leave the team as a ufa this summer or next year if he opts in or resigns to a shorter deal to take advantage of the cap spike in 2016. Cavs would likely throw dollars at calipari that would make him the highest paid coach in the league or at the same pay grade with the likes of doc rivers and gregg popovich.

Haha maybe but IMO Melo has a larger ego than Lebron.

eh, melo didn't have an hour long tv show to announce his decision to leave his hometown. He also didn't say that him returning to his hometown was one of the biggest events in the history of sports because of him.

I wonder if he was referring to Love or himself? Maybe he has hopes of Calipri coming in and defusing EVERYONE's ego.

It also doesn't help his image when he is trying to meddle in the jobs of other people (GM, coach, etc.). Just play ball and let the other people do their thanggggg.
