Looks like its back to watching Badger teams that can defend the perimeter but have a candy ass big man in the middle.

Yeah, it's not like he's the first big time Badger high school player who didn't go to Madison. They all have the right to go to whatever situation they think is the best for them. Obviously, Stone and his parents thought Maryland would be the best. That's the way it goes.

It's not as if Stone chose to sign with say LSU. Maryland isn't some complete win at all costs school who will admit pretty much any high talent kid who can at least spell his own name.

High caliber talents in all sports leave their own state to play elsewhere all of the time and for a variety of reasons. Hell, for as much as i love both of the Marquette and Wisconsin programs, if i was a premium recruit, there is a chance that an out of state program could sway me also.

Maybe something about a certain campus a recruit falls in love with. Really hitting it off with a certain coach. Simply wanting to experience living in a different part of the country. A combination of those factors. It doesn't automatically have to mean something nefarious because the big recruit surprises everyone by spurning the home school.

When the shoe is on the other foot and a quality recruit leaves his home state to sign at Marquette or Wisconsin in basketball or football, while stating reasons i mentioned above, fans here don't automatically jump to conclusions thinking the kid/kids are making that up to cover for something questionable instead.

When you include the 76ers in your definition of NBA team anything is possible this year.

Today's game helped me get over the Stone thing. Next year might be a little rough, but even the best programs have transition years from time to time. I have no doubt Bo will develop the majority of these young guys and incoming recruits into good players.

MD's academic standards are stringent too.

But hey, maybe Walker's cuts will make it easier for people to get in!

I've given up all hope of Dekker returning, but if he does I still love UW's frontcourt best year.

Dekker has firmly placed himself in the top 20. I think he's also going to shine in the camps. IMO he will have a Potsie type rise and someone will fall in love with him. Difference is. He's a really good player.

Yeah he gone. Hayes will be back for sure though. Koenig and Hayes will be the best two man attack in the B1G next year. Then Happ will probably emerge as a good young big. Just need to sprinkle in some role players from the unknowns.

You need to have 5 guys on the court who can score to have true success, these past two years have taught us that, as long as ability to score is one of those roles this team will be fine, if not teams will be able to run two guys at Hayes and he doesn't have the height or quickness to handle that.

I luv Koenig, but he has been extremely tight this whole tournament and has played poorly, he had a breakout first half against KY last year, he will need to do that again on Saturday.

Great post. Summed up my thoughts perfectly. Not sure why people feel these kids owe anything to the in-state schools, both Marquette and Wisconsin.

I'm not going to endorse Koenig's play as excellent, because he has made a few dumb plays and has been pretty quiet.

All of that said, he's such a danger from 3, other teams hedge way above screens on him and have to watch him like a hawk, which still helps the team a lot. He's deferring to 3 NBA big men right now for the scoring. He'll be an alpha dog next year in his expanded role. Zero concern here.

You saw the end of the B10 title game. He can do it if he wants to.

Speaking as a MD alum and fan - while I'm excited that Stone is going there, I'd rather be in the final 4 with a chance at the national championship - especially with Stone probably being a 1 and doner. So congrats to Sconsin. As an outsider, I really enjoy watching them play - I love Kaminsky, and Dekker has been putting on a freak show that I wasn't expecting. MD hasn't been in the Big Ten long enough to develop a rivalry, but hopefully that starts next season, and we can start talking trash. :) So far, Ohio State and Michigan State seem easier to hate.
