Bag of cash straight from Under Armour. That's the only reason he chose UMD. The whole.."whatever his reasons may be" line... This is his reason. UMD really is not a good basketball program, at best they are a regional player. They have a new coach who is nowhere near as well regarded as Bo, and it's just not the type of program that lands an out of state guy like Stone, UNLESS, there is money changing hands. It's not like he is a 3 or 4 star guy like what UW snags from other states.. he is a 5 star guy who will be a one and done. I think UW was only on his interest list to drive the price up from the boosters tied to UA and UMD. That's all, and that's probably why he waited so long into the process to sign... wanted them to keep upping the ante. While no, we can not prove this... it is a much more viable train of thought than, oh he just liked UMD and decided to go there... that's a load of ****.

Either that or Turgeon just out recruited Bo.
And your big bag of UA cash theory doesn't get less idiotic the more times you post it.

Sounds like Stone is full of ****. Read one article saying he decided on Friday right after meeting with Turgeon for 2.5 hours. Stone states that before the meeting with Turgeon on Friday, he wasn't swayed in towards one school or the other.
The strength and conditioning explanation is just a talking point.

Badger fans never cease to amaze me with their homer stances. Despite more tournament appearances, wins, and a much more recent championship, it HAD to be money related. How dare someone choose to go to a new location outside of the Mecca that is Madison...Diggr14 wrote:Bag of cash straight from Under Armour. That's the only reason he chose UMD. If his grades were good enough, if under armor didn't pay him off....he went to MD because he is one and done and won't be yanked after every stupid mistake, lazy defensive effort, or terrible shot........BO is a talent developer and team builder, Stone is only going to college because he has to.....personally wish I'd never have to hear about him ever again.

Sure, I don't think that NCAA athletes should take money under the table and schools that are proponents of this should get extremely harsh penalties. If he wants money, go to Europe or the D-league. The NCAA needs to do a lot more about corruption in their sport. I know they have big perception problems, but if they want to keep it "amateur" they really need to clean up the system big time.

If Stone came to Wisconsin he would have been a one and done, has that happened at UW before?

I really don't care about Stone or recruiting in general, but I thought the comment about his adviser asking if they should release his ACT scores reaked of BS.

You have no idea if he got money under the table. Stop spreading that as if it's true.
I'm disappointed he didn't go to Wisconsin but maybe he just liked the MD coaching staff better. Who knows? Regardless it's super dooshy to insinuate he's taking bribes without one shred of evidence.

Amateur?
That ship sailed decades ago ace. Revenues at top schools athletic programs is ~100M/season. You are living in the past.

So what evidence do you have of this? Also, why doesn't UMD get other top players if they are handing out cash? You look like a total tool just assuming he got paid illegally. There are plenty of other reasons to go to UMD without having to take money. If he was all about the money, why not just go to Europe? Maybe he will eventually get paid by UA after going pro by being on UMD but is that any different than taking an unpaid internship in hopes of landing a bigger job later? There are plenty more reasonable explanations than a huge company affiliated with a university illegally smuggling cash to get a recruit as you say in your first line. And it's not like Stone couldn't have found some shady, rich alumns at UW to get him money on the side if that is what he wanted. Honestly, UW isn't that great of an environment for a 18 year old who will only spend 6 months on campus. Stop making it like they are the alabama of basketball.

Re: 2014-15 Badger Discussion Thread - Stone to Maryland
If Ryan's coaching career has proven anything it is that he's a winner who gets the best out of whatever talent he's got. Obviously, losing Stone to Maryland and Kaminsky and Dekker (I think he'll leave) to the pros will hurt.
The Badgers won't be as good next year. But these last two seasons are the best in Badger bb history.
Mighty difficult to keep that up without getting the steady stream of five stars like other schools. But the Badgers will still be good next year. You can bet on it.

Guessing they bank it, this and Sam's scholarship will give them two for the following year, hopefully a big and a pg.
