maybe KG? not overly big, but strong enough to play in the post but also still mobile.
According to draftexpress... KG was 6'11" 217lb (now 253ish). so there is definite hope for gordons 6'9" 220-225lb. I have definitely heard about both of them having that "wiry strength" and strong bases.
if by the heavens he is 6'10" 235lb by the end of the summer.... I would be the happiest person ever. haha
KG? Terrible comparison, AG is nothing like him
I understand the Blake comparison
I don't think that either of us were referring to his style of play..... just his body. And i was particular looking at body maturity and the fact that even though both are considered "skinny"... they were stronger than their bodies suggested.

And the fact they have similar bodies, similar athletic ability, play similar positions. It could be that too you know. But, I'm sure it's your thing.

Body types are not similar. Blake Griffin is stocky and Aaron Gordon is lanky.
I mean, c'mon...

I've never looked at Blake and said "Oh he's stocky". Maybe we have wildly different ideas of what stocky is, but to me 6'10" 250 pound man is not it.

Blake Griffin?
This is the obvious choice to hope for from a playing style but Blake Griffin as an 18-19 year old draft prospect was an inch taller and 25 lbs heavier than Gordon is today.
Can Gordon add 25 lbs without sacrificing a bit of athletic ability?
this choice would be only if AG is playing PF. too big and he will lose the ability to play SF. Just like Blake cannot play SF, just not fast enough and too big

why is it a terrible comparison for body type? it was based on the premise of him still playing SF/PF. If he bulks up similar to Blake, no way he could continue to play SF.

Re: THE Aaron Gordon thread
I don't like the KG comparison... 2 inches in height difference is a big detractor from the start. KG did have a heavy base. It's a big part of what made him a good defender... and a big part of why he wasn't an explosive athlete. AG is explosive because he has a light base. More like a SF.
I don't like the Griffin comparison even more. But the reason I believe it's there is for people who think AG can grow into a big bodied PF. I can't honestly buy that and feel good about myself.
Something like Ibaka's body type MIGHT be possible. Muscular with a light base, lean, but not wiry. Able to maintain quickness without being weighed down. Better rim protector than post defender. AG would have to really get yoked out in order to be a closer comparison, but I can't see a fair comparison there. Their skills vary enough to make them different kinds of players though. AG a better ball handler, Ibaka a better shot blocker.
I see him being a lot closer to tweeners like Rudy Gay, Thad Young, Josh Smith... also see shades of Trevor Ariza. But that said, I've always been in the camp that leans on AG as a SF. Looks like the new reality is that NBA teams are starting to look at these guys as a new position though... VF. The Versatile Forward.

I've always hated the Blake comparisons. Their games aren't remotely close and its really because they can both jump. Also, Blake CLEARLY has a stockier build than AG. I think he'll be in the Marion/DGreen/Thad mold with better perimeter defense imo.

Their body types are not so similar.
At the same age as Gordon is now, Griffin was an inch taller and almost 30 lbs heavier with arguably more athleticism.
I still see Gordon has a SF going forward. All we need is a legit PF and we have something. Perhaps that guy can be found in this draft? Towns? Okafor? Porzingis? WCS? Turner?

Re: THE Aaron Gordon thread
Honestly you don't need to be a big hulking PF these days because those traditional bigs are becoming relics of the past. More and more we're seeing the small ball PF and it's working, see Millsap....See Draymond.....see Faried.....I honestly think Henny was doing his homework with Ag, seeing how the league is changing and how the game is evolving he got himself a player like those guys.

Stocky might be an exaggeration, but he certainly seems to have more base muscle mass.

Using Ibaka as a point of reference (since there's no photos of the two side by side), Griffin's arms are much more solid.
Look at them in college:

Griffin had cannons for arms back when he was 19. Gordon is lanky. Gordon is built more like Matt Barnes than Blake Griffin.
Then, look at legs:

Griffin has tree trunks, which suggests to me his frame is and always was prepared to take a heavier load.
Gordon is lanky/slender.

Matt Barnes. Slender, agile, but still strong and willing to bang in the post. Marion, too.
AG is already bigger than Ariza, but smaller than Smith (Smith almost looks fat in the shoulders, if that's a thing?).

Because that doesn't make any logical sense. Are you suggesting you don't think its realistic that he end up 6"11? Hes only 19, surely growing a few inches at his age isn't unprecedented.

No it's not realistic that he grows to 6-11, are you serious?? The guy isn't even a legit 6'9 he'd be lucky to grow another quarter inch.
19 going 20 is late in the growth cycle, it's rare as hell for somebody to drastically still be shooting up at that age unless they have that growth gland disease.
