But we lost with a one armed Milsap, no Korver and Thabo and a basically no legged Demarre. I think it gives them false hope.
I love the team oriented thing, but we need to build a team that can survive injuries like Cleveland did. Cleveland had two HUGE injuries and went from a elite offensive team to a elite defensive team with their replacements. We went from an elite team to a pretty good team with the injuries.
Simply put, you aren't going to be able to have guys that are just as good offensively coming off the bench. But you can have a group of lock down defenders coming and I am in favor of that.
That's why I don't want to move Korver to the bench(although I would for Matthews or Danny Green). I would rather just reup on the defensive second unit so that when a starter goes down we simply get better defensively.
Funny thing is that it seems like the last couple years Ferry went out to get depth at a certain position only to have the very same position challenged by injury. It was the bigs last year and the wings this year but clearly this team's ceiling has risen greatly with just a greater amount of quality depth added to it. For that reason I imagine that just adding a 5th wing and 4th big would put this team right back at if not farther than they were this year.
I used this metaphor before in that the team is like a Ferrari engine, with all the parts working the engine as a whole is a thing of beauty but unfortunately the entire thing gets bogged down or doesn't work at all if any single or pair of parts get gunked up. Due to the exotic nature of the engine not just any spare part can be plugged in to replace a part that breaks down either. You typically would have to import the replacement part which takes time but if you have the particular spares sitting in your garage already then it's less of a concern. Teams that follow the superstar model and particularly Cleveland are like an aircraft carrier with multiple engines powered by a nuclear core, they can survive one or two engines going down especially as long as the reactor stays intact but that just isn't an option for this current team. Increase the cache of spare parts in the garage and I believe that it shouldn't be hard to maintain the team's peak performances for longer or specific stretches.
