If he really wants to go back to Texas, and he really wants a better situation, than watch out for Houston. They're an Ariza trade away from clearing the requisite space. They also have great pieces for a S&T with a Blazers team that would be rebuilding.

Hope the Pistons land LMA this offseason.

Marc Stein and Broussard in the ESPN circle jerk. Until Woj tweets something or we hear directly from Aldridge's mouth it is hot air and clickbait.Brandon-Clyde wrote:Agenda42 wrote:It would be cool if there were some information in the article.

Stein is highly credible. Not sure why he is getting trashed here. And if he reports something related to Dallas you can probably take it to the bank as he is extremely dialed in to the MAvs organization.
As to LMA to Dallas? I can't see it. Just a lazy reporter tying him being from here to Cuban's desire every summer to chase the biggest fish in free agency. It makes no sense for him to come here.

Precisely and their starting PG is probably going to be Devin Harris or Barea.
don't overlook this guy:

Seems this way. It's like every medium tier and up player is possibly going to sign with the Mavs. Either Cuban wants all the players, or players use the Mavs to force other teams to step up their recruiting games.

Does Mark Cuban seriousky think that leaking BS to the media like this will make FAs come to Dallas?
He didn't learn from when Dwight, Deron and everyone else spurned the Mavs on the years?

Maybe Aldridge will show in the playoffs with Dallas.

knicks FTW. Alrdidge + Melo would be the only other team in the east besides cleveland with two superstars. spend the rest of the money on good role-players.

Cuban thinks the Mavs are a bigger destination than they actually are. Players want to pair up with fellow stars. Until Cuban gets a young star, players aren't going to sign with them for no reason. Gone are the days where players sign with teams to be the franchise, now all they want to do is make it easiest on themselves to win a ring. Unless you are Melo and just want money.

To be fair to Cuban, he doesn't seem to go all out when chasing big name free agents; he thinks that he can sell them on their winning culture alone, ignoring other pressing factors like the existing players on the roster that would make championship aspirations viable and most importantly - money.
He didn't show up during the meeting with Deron and lowballed him; our presentation to Melo was basically the trophy (in the end Melo had his mind set in staying so this is probably moot); and I really don't think he even tried all that much with Dwight based on his blog post about the meeting. Hell, you can make a case about Mo Williams too when they had like several meetings that were all stalemates because they wouldn't budge on the money, opting to sign the inferior Jameer Nelson for 500k less.
Which is why the Aldridge pursuit has a 99.9% chance of failing. I think they'll go to the meeting with the old "Dirk Nowitzki + Best owner in sports / 25% paycut = championship!" shtick that's 4 years irrelevant.

other than maybe picks, do they? is Jones/Montiejunas, reacquiring Papanikolaou, and filler really better than having max cap space and going after someone like Greg Monroe?

It seems crazy to me that Aldridge isn't interested in San Antonio.

I hope LA remains in Portland.
I agree, for whatever reason the Mavs have never been able to land a top FA. They've been great at making trades but players just don't want to play for the Mavs. At least not the top level FA.
Even as a Mavs fan I have to say that if he was smart he would go to the Spurs. Pop would do wonders with a core of Aldridge, Leonard, and Parker. You could pretty much put extend their dynasty at least another 6 years.
Dallas won't be in a position to win big or at least go deep in the playoffs until after next off season. The Spurs would be top seed this year.

Re: Reports: Mavs Could Be Front Runners In Landing Aldridge
I have had this feeling that Aldridge will land with the Knicks for awhile. Not sure why. Just the talk that he wants to live in a big city. The fact him and Melo are pretty much at the same point in there careers. The east is so bad that Melo, Aldridge, top 4 pick and another free agent could be really good.
I'm not buying any place that wants Aldridge to play center. He tapped out of playing center in Portland. He pretty much said I need to play next to a center. I could see him trying to force his way to Houston before going to Dallas.
