Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Off-Season Thread
Possible off-season:
Trade:
Scott / 50 / future second for 20's first from a team that wants experience over potential; Dalles, LA. This can be tweeked. The goal is to get a pick to pair with #15.
#15 / #21 / Minny pic + for #8. DET might be interested in having two picks. They need PF and SF.
Draft:
#8: Stanley Johnson: strong SF with great D and offensive potential. Next JYD with more potential
FA:
R Lopez: the less offensive but more reliable Lopez to give us a true C
W Matthews: key piece to FA. Can be our talented starting SG going forward
B Wright: Injury concerns, but a solid backup at PF/C
Carroll: key guy to keep on the team. JYD is our glue and can develop Johnson
Lopez / Wright / Edy T
Horf / Moose /
Carroll / Johnson / Thabo
Matthews / Korver / Baze
JT / Schro / Mack

Lopez is my second choice after Monroe. Put Monroe in Lopez place and we have a MUCH better team

Lopez is a better defender and has a better midrange shot. Monroe is better on the block and a slightly better rebounder. I personally think Lopez is a better fit.

The 15th and 21st overall pick won't get us to #8 and that's with the MIN pick attached. The MIN 2017 1st is protected really well (lotto protected) from 2017-2020 IIRC.
Just last year #16 (Jusif Nurkic) and #19 (Gary Harris) only moved the Bulls up to #11 (Doug McDermott). So there is no shot that #15 and #21 gets us to #8.

It's a fantasy senario based on probabilities. I think we can get Johnson with a top ten pick in this senario. Give or take I think my trades are at least possible and are usually run through the TB

Possible? Yes. But probable? No. PMott is correct in that combining lesser picks together is not likely to get you to move up 7 spots in a draft particularly deep into the lotto selections. All the times that it's been done has barely moved a team on average 3-4 spots so it's doubtful that Detroit would budge on that package. They'd be more satisfied in taking an impact player at either PF or SF than trading back to get lesser hopefuls just to fill out positions.

Crazy, totally unprobable taboo off-season.
Hawks are on a glass bubble. ECF, but Sap is probably leaving (over-paid) and Carroll will get paid here or else-where. Horf is well into his prime, Korver is old.
Crazy blow it up idea: for fun
Trade Horf, Korver and JT while at super high value.Trade Scott and seconds and get 4 top 10 picks in this draft.
Draft: Okafor / Winslow / Lyes / Johnson

Not the worst idea. But I'm not sure Horford alone gets you a top 3 pick. No way an injured 35 year old role player (Korver) gets a top 10 pick alone.
Horford could get us #4 from NY. Teague could likely get us #6 from SAC. That would be a hard pill to swallow.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Off-Season Thread
2 things make good sense at this point:
1) Try and convince Marc Gasol that getting to the Finals is easier from the East than the West; time to show some balance. Do we have enough cap space for the deal? I still say Pau Gasol was perfect for our needs last year....seemed like DF waiting too long to take a stab at him.
2) I still have an interest in TJ Warren; is he in PHX plans this upcoming season? Do we have something to offer there?

Thoughts
If Atlanta looses Carroll this off season, do you this Paul could start and man the SF spot for 25min per game. this would allow us to obtain a real Center and move Al the Pf. Maybe draft or pick up another Sf and scoring SG.
I'm Wishing we would " pull a MR. BLANK AND PUT THE FULL COURT PRESS ON MARK GASOL" JUS BACK THE MONEY TRUCK USP!!

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Off-Season Thread
Question?
" This piece was originally going to be an exhortation to the new ownership group to go all in to keep the current roster together. My suggestion is to begin negotiations with DeMarre Carroll and Paul Millsap by placing all of the cards on the table. If the Hawks would like to retain both players, the only way is for Carroll to accept a new contract starting under $13 million and Millsap an early Bird deal starting at no more than $16.7 million. If these numbers seem high to you, speculation is rampant that both players may receive max contract offers from other teams. With the cap set to explode next summer, there will likely be a free agent feeding frenzy as teams seek to lock up talent.
Thus, I would meet with Millsap and Carroll and tell them the contracts are already drawn up. If the full amount is what it takes to keep this starting five together, then that’s the offer. If they’re willing to negotiate smaller contracts so that the team can pursue an impact free agent, that’s on the table as well. If either player says that’s not good enough, then the Hawks must explore other options.
If Carroll or Millsap seek a deal in excess of these numbers, the Hawks would have to cut ties with one of them. To offer Carroll more than $13 million, the Hawks would have to renounce Millsap’s cap hold or cut salary via trade. Once Carroll was signed, there wouldn’t be enough cap space to make a competitive offer to Millsap. If the latter wants more than $16.7 million (he’s eligible for a four-year deal starting at north of $20 million per season), the Hawks would have to renounce Millsap’s early Bird rights and sign him with cap space. That of course would leave the team without resources to sign Carroll."
If Carroll $ Milsap did this, could we sign Mark Gasol to a Max 4year deal? I would prefer to renounce Millsap first, or Carroll. but keep one of the two. Carroll proved he got that DOG we need on this team. Also, just a wish.... trade Dennis and our 15th this year and one of our 2017 first round picks to move up a get Super Mario Hezonja.

I dont want monroe. He cant defend or shoot and his development has been extremely stagnant. I dont think hes that good at all and question if hes even worth the max from a production stand point.
I rather keep AL at C than bring in monroe. Atleast AL can defend a pick and roll.

Mozgov is the protypical big that we need. Rim protector, good rebounder, can catch the ball and finish close range shots and does all the dirty work. Much better than having a big that just camps out 15ft and out, has no inside game, and consistently gets outrebounded.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Off-Season Thread
How about we go get ANYONE that can compete with Mosgov/Thompson/Varajeo? We are so small, and need a big man in the worse way.....still since Zaza and his injury issues.
You can't depend on a backup 1M C IMO; go after Lopez faster than Billy King can hiccup. The Nets didn't utilize him like they should.
The real question is who can co-exist with Millsap and Horford, both all-stars? You have to be willing to come off the bench. That's the best label we can give to a big man at this time. It either has to be a draft pick (best option), or a journeyman big man.
I would be happy at this point with Aron Baynes of the Spurs, but I don't think Bud takes players from Pop. He already knows the system though, a huge plus!
If there is any market for Muscala and Scott, I would push it.

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Off-Season Thread
Again, if you keep PM and AH, the C is going to be someone like Robin Lopez/ Koufos / etc. Itll be a good 20-25min Big Man who isnt capable of starting (because he wont have a spot TO start).
