What Boozer did was way worst, and it's not even close.

Re: the moratorium comments in this thread, it exists to allow the NBA/NBPA to finalise the previous years financials and establish the precise cap number for the upcoming season. Since NBA max/minimum/midlevel deals are set as a percentage of the overall cap, you can't sign a contract if you don't know exactly what the pay is. The fact that they get all of that stuff completed and signed off in a week is fairly miraculous as it is.

I agree with the people who feel he should be able to back out of this. With the way the NBA works, his deal has a direct domino effect on other players and franchises. What if he backs out and the Mavs offer Robin Lopez a deal, which he accepts? Then the Knicks lose their projected starting center. So on and so forth.

I'm assuming that players can't sign yet even tho they are committed with a team? When can they actually sign?

And it would be awesome if he actually changed his mind.

Yeah that's the reasoning but it's still pretty dumb that it takes as long as it does. Do they do it all by hand?

If he reverses the decision, the Clips should relinquish their next 5 1st rounders to Dallas...

This is how I'm seeing it.

It's a classless move by the Clips that breaks unwritten rules.

I remember John "God told me to sign with Sacramento" Salmons after he agreed to sign with Toronto.

Hedo Turkoglu did that to us before signing with Toronto. If memory serves me well his wife made him do it or at least that was the excuse.

Just start free agency after the numbers are released. Makes much more sense.

Alex Kennedy @AlexKennedyNBA
Many around NBA felt Mavs got 2 meetings with DJ since Cuban & agent Dan Fegan are close. @ESPNSteinLine says Clipps will go straight to DJ.

Anddd this is why having seven days before you can officially sign a contract is stupid.

Wait what? I mean if you pay $2 billion for the team, you can pick up dinner to make sure one of your best players stays with the team.

Look, the Clippers didn't take the possibility that Jordan would leave seriously. Shame on them. I think this is shady but people do shady stuff when the stakes are this high. It can only work if Jordan is willing to listen, and he's clearly willing to listen. What Jordan should be asking himself is why he wasn't valued more before he had one foot out the door already. If I were his agent, that's the conversation I'd be having.

Exactly what I was thinking. If the league really needs a week to crunch the numbers, then just say "free agency opens July 9th; no negotiations before then".

I'm not privy to how the NHL makes their calculations but their FA period opens July 1st and all signings can be official as of that date.
