If this is legal, they can intentionally destroy rival teams.

Next year, OKC tells KD

'Make a verbal agreement with GSW or SAS or HOU. Then big FA are gone, get back!'

And to add to that, Kerr won in his first year as coach. No one knows how it will all play out. DJ should've been a man about it though and told Cuban to his face. Or at least over the phone.

He's not looking out for the best interests of his client. Deandre should clearly stay with LAC. Better team, better chance of getting that championship. Shame on Fegan for putting his client's interests beneath his friendship with Cuban. Dude should be fired before Deandre's next hand of poker with Blake and Chris.

Lol wut?

So Fegan forced DJ to sign with Dallas.. After Jordan met with them, had dinner with them, and came to a handshake agreement. That's.. just unbelievable that its the agent's fault that the guy changed his mind

The agent is there to get the client money. The client chooses his location. I cant believe people buy the big bad agent forcing poor DeAndre to a team he didnt want to go to. I'm sure Fegan wanted less money, and thats why he pushed DJ to Dallas.

DeAndre is grown a55 man, people copping pleas, like he is a little kid or something.

Not an ideal situation but what you want to do > what people want you to do. He doesn't owe jack to Dallas or the Mavs and all the hurt feelings and ill will in the world from Dallas residents and message board posters doesn't mean anything when you're strolling down Sunset in a Bentley and playing for a championship.

This is the NBA. There are no business ethics, only what is best for you if you're a player, or for the team if you're an owner. I'm sure everyone on a moral high horse will condemn him for this, but the thing is, it will have 0% effect on his life and he won't give a flying crap. Life is going to be good - very, VERY good - for DeAndre Jordan. Even if he is a re-nigging mf'er. And that matters to him a heck of a lot more than insults from strangers. Crappy for the Mavs, but respect to DJ for not giving a ****. There's certainly been enough bad karma from owners/GM's to players to balance it out.

Typically in life honoring your word is seen as a virtue.

He didn't have to give his word to the Mavs. He did.

It was a dick move. That he should have 100% made if that's how he felt, with no regrets whatsoever.

This was a major life decision. Making major life decisions, or even keeping your word on them, based on how other people are going to feel is pretty damn stupid. Even if it makes you look like a dick. Lots of marriages that end in disaster because someone made a commitment and didn't want to back out because people would cry.

**** people. It's your life. Do what you want to do. Cuban is still a billionaire last time I checked, and when food gets taken off the table of fans in Dallas because DJ changed his mind i'll be eager to know about it.

Why is it so difficult for people to comprehend that its not the decision itself, but rather the way he's handled the situation that has garnered so much negative attention.

Good for him. 110 > 80. His game relies on athleticism, he won't get this kinda money again.

Should have taken your time and not rushed things. Now the Mavs have no option at C and maybe a dude like Lopez would be there right now instead of the Knicks.

As someone who has received the total Dan Fegan experiences both with Parsons signing on with him, then the Dwight pursuit, then the suspicious not picking up Parsons option, then Parsons signing with Dallas for max money immediately in FA last year, and now the whole Parsons recruiting DJ to a team crappier team and being seeing in public everywhere, I just find the whole situation stinks. This is the same agent that stirs up Cousins rumors all the time, made Dwight unlikeable the moment he signed up in Orlando, and is infamous for doing package deals for his clients. It’s very possible Jordan has been getting bad advice.

Because let's face it, choosing the Clippers over the Mavericks is the most logical decision in the world.

At the end of the day, DJ is a grown man and no one forced him to verbally commit to Dallas. He should have given the Clippers a 2nd meeting since he was underwhelmed by the first one and truly wanted to stay a Clipper. Unless his agent lied to him and said that the Clippers did not want him back and that he should sign with Dallas, I don't see any way that this is not DJ's fault. He should have taken his time like LMA, dude even gave the Lakers a second meeting just to make sure he gets it down right.

I think reports were that Kerr preferred the Knicks job due to his connection with Phil, but then there were other reports saying how he preferred the Warriors so he could stay on the West Coast to be closer to his family. Don't think he verbally committed then back out.

Give me 3 scenarios of that hypothetical ever happening....

I'll wait ...lol

No damn team would sully their name like that ...the risk of sullying their name for future free agents would be far too great especially if it went public

Fact is people are huffing and puffing and dropping all of this hyperbolic commentary when in reality There's no rules broken here... The only thing that was broken would be a few fans hearts out in Dallas ...and while it's unfortunate for them ...that's business ... People renege on handshake agreements all the time .... That's why nothing's final until that name is signed on that dotted line

If this becomes the norm, if it occurs more often, then teams that already have a problem attracting FAs wouldn't think twice about backing out of an offer to a middling player who they have to overpay if a better player becomes available. There are a lot of teams that have to overpay for mediocre talent. What punishment are the agents going to hand down to them? No you can't overpay my client when the market is drying up and he really doesn't have any better option?

Ok so let me see if I get were your coming from ..

So a team who already has difficulty landing talent from the get go ...actually lands talent ...but rejects that talent ....because they feel confident they can get better talent...

Ok .... Like I was saying man ....let me know of some actual examples like this happening ... I mean if people are going to throw out these wild hypotheticals I would think they could at least base them in some sort of reality

A team has never done it because players keep their end of the promise 90% of the time. I'm saying that if the right opportunity comes along for the right team, and Jordon situation happens more often, don't be shocked if teams don't feel obligated to keep their word either.

Norms, by definition, only exist because of the expectation that everyone will adhere to them and they will be adhered to in good faith. It use to be normal for one party not to filibuster every nominee. That norm changed and the party in the majority did away with the filibuster for nominees. I find the notion that players will jerk teams around like this, but that teams will feel obligated to adhere to their oral promises to be divorced from reality.

So what is preventing players/teams from screwing over other teams in manners similar to this in the future. Teams could essentially tell one of there free agents, in order to hurt a rival, commit to signing with them until the free agent pool dries up, then renege and come back to their original team.

It would be a strategy that could hurt division and conference rivals that as of right now, really couldn't be stopped and could really screw a team over for at least one year.

Would the Mavs take Jamal Crawford as an apology for all this?
