Robert Upshaw to the Lakers, conspiracy theory

It was Mitch who introduced him to his first line of cocaine back in college. The classic long con.

No Mitch actually wanted to buy a 2nd round pick to pick him but no GM was willing to deal because they didn't want him to end up with another Jordan Clarkson

It's not my fault the mods allow such a stupid thread to exist.

This is the worst theory i've ever heard. If the Lakers wanted Upshaw that badly, they would've used the Nance or Russell pick on him.

Baseless accusations, nothing to see here folks.

Could happen, Lakers kinda stashed Kobe away also. Everyone knew Upshaw would drop, why not drop him all the way so you won't have to draft him.

Well, that's funny, only if he finally turns out good, the Lakers scared all the other franchises to not get him. If he busts, he just went undrafted because of the red flags.

Genius logic right there.

Everyone passed on him. I don't see a conspiracy nearing Kobedraftgate at all. Nice try though.

Besides Upshaw's off the court issues, based off Summer League he needs a lot of on court help too. His off the court issues are irrelevant if he can't play. He'll require extensive grooming IMO.

No it's directly from Mitch himself on a radio interview. Obviously he didn't mention any names but when they asked him about drafting Larry Nance who was a surprise pick and why he didn't wait to just pick him in the 2nd round. His response was Nance was off he charts with his measurements in his workouts and he didn't want to risk losing him. So he used the 27th pick to pick him.

Then he tried to buy a 2nd round pick to pick who he really wanted in the 2nd round but no GM was willing to deal with him, this was after drafting Anthony Brown mind you...moments later it was announced that Robert Upshaw had joined the lakers summer league team.

There was a player I created in nba2k11 named Calvin Harris who was from England, beat his wife and got busted with coke. All the teams passed on him. The lakers took a chance on him after he had gone to rehab, he turned out to be a changed man and he dominated the league, was a 30, 15,8 guy. He helped the lakers win the chip. Hopefully, Upshaw turns out to be Calvin Harris.

It's basically like this... You lame Lakers haters thought the organization's winning ways were over when Stern and his band of corporate criminals stole Chris Paul from us. In the end, we are going to make you all wish that trade had went through.

They would go through all that trouble to not even spend one draft pick on him? They were just too worried someone was going to snatch up Larry Nance Jr.? If they wanted him that badly, why would they depend on him going undrafted? Even with all the issues surrounding him, it was pretty surprising he went undrafted and it easily could've gone another way.

This. I mean seriously. Why in the world wouldn't the Lakers just have used one of their 3 picks on Upshaw if they valued him that highly?
