Cannot overstate the importance of establishing a schedule. My workouts come right after my workday is finished, so it's incredibly easy to follow. Even when I don't feel like working out, I get myself to the gym and it takes care of itself.

I agree. I do so much better when I have a calendar and/or routine. If I rely on just doing something when I get time, I generally miss more days of working out.

Pretty sure I tweaked this, this morning. Ugh, very uncomfortable. Sucks getting old... Hopefully doesn't derail me too much as less than 2# from my 180# goal. Sure I rest is the best though...

I've really been working on my bench press lately and I want to continue doing it. It's pretty weak compared to my other lifts and I hope I can get to 1000 lbs on the power 3 by the end of the year.

I one repped maxed at 355 lb squat, 315 lb deadlift, which I just started doing in the past year, and haven't been doing it as consistent as I want. Had to really work on my grip strength. And I'm not sure where my bench is but its probably around 175 lbs based on what I can do with dumbells (did 80 for 5 today) and what I've in the past on bench. I don't always have a spotter so I'm wary, no goeful, to test a bench max.

Read a pretty common sense inspiration the other day:

If you keep working hard and don't quit, the results will come.

Sometimes it's the litte reminders that provide motivation. I'm successfully up 5-8lbs now with a lower body fat %.

Good quote. I had my yearly physical today and my #s were good and down 14# since end of April. I'd like to lose a few more but just hoping to keep working hard for the most part. I feel so much better.

I am finally back in the gym! I sprained my AC joint in my shoulder trying to pad my fall after being undercut going for a layup in a pick-up game. I've been out of weight-work for about 2 months now.

First day back I was going to test my shoulder a bit, decided to do chest/triceps/forearms. Shoulder felt real good! Managed to put the 100 pound dumbbells up on flat bench for a clean set of 6 on my last set.

All aboard the gains train...

Yeah I'm going to be more strict with taking my off days, and I'm going to keep the volume pretty low for the first few weeks back.

Going to be a lot more diligent with my stretching and shoulder mobility work both pre and post workout. I'm also going to be drinking glucosamine and flax seed oil like it's water from now on lol.

I'm terrible with that as well. I HAVE TO force my break days and even though I hate them, I always feel better the following day.

And yeah, stretching is the best thing ever. The older I get, the more I stretch and the more I enjoy it.

Open question: How much does your weight fluctuate daily and weekly?

I have days where I change close to five or six pounds based on when I eat, drink etc. weekly the shift can be as much as eight pounds. I'm about 155 so really a big swing. granted most is water weight but I always find it amazing when people say they lost a number less than five pounds. How can they really tell?

Usually a two pound deviation isn't crazy for me for daily but most often it's around a pound or less. Depends on diet and exercise, obviously but I stay pretty consistent with my consumption.

I track in MFP so I know what to expect.

Just try to weigh yourself at the same time every day. Typically right away in the morning. That way you avoid deviations with eating, etc.

Side note, this Bulls fan clearly has it all figured out. Image

Lol I never understood the desire of people to use synthol.

That guy in the above photo looks absolutely ridiculous.

All kinds of gainz.

Speaking of that, YouTube is a great resource for fitness. Whether it is information or routines or just motivation to try some new things out. There are some great people to check out.

Personally recommend Elliott Hulse/Strengthcamp, Bart Kwan (knows his stuff and is hilarious), and Omar Isuf to name a few. Just typing in a question will lead to some other great fitness people too like the Hodge twins and etc.

I usually deviate b/w 1-2# in a week. And 0.5-1# a day.

I'm debating whether to get my foot checked out. It's in the back inside upper heel just left of Achilles. If hit direct it hurts but been dull pain for like a month. I used to be fine walking but now its noticeable with most movements. I've cut back on running hard on treadmill & starting to ice/stretch more. My shoes should be fine too, good shape (reebook zags). I just am paranoid about blowing Achilles, sure I'm overreacting & it just needs rest.

You get fitted for your running shoes? Made a huge difference in my life (as did switching from **** insoles to superfeet).

Went to Fleet Feet in Brookfield and they put me on a treadmill, analyzed my stride and then had me try on shoes. Never knew how much science went behind it.

I used to watch Elliott Hulse but that dude went straight off the deep end lol. His videos became way too philosophical for me, it became annoying.

I like Maxx Chewning, Joey Candito, Christian Guzman, Tiger Fitness (Marc Lobliner), and Physiques of Greatness.

Kind of off topic ish, but just wonder if anyone has had any experience withdrawing from psych medications?

Long story short, I have a long series of adverse reactions to antidepressants (Lexapro 10mg, Celexa 20mg, Prozac 30mg) and benzos (ativan, Valium) and am working to regain my health back and tapering off Valium, Prozac, and a corticosteroid under my MD's supervision.

I'm only 27, but haven't been able to workout or be healthy in at least 6 years.

Anyone have any experience with these medications making you or someone you know sick? They have devastated my life.

Thanks.

Do any of you guys have home gyms? If so, can you tell me how you went about picking out your equipment? Was brand important to you. I know Rogue is a cool brand for example. But it seems like you can find no name private label brands that are cheaper and probably just as good since they often have good reviews too.

Strangely enough, when I saw the bump in this thread my first thought was "oh, I've been meaning to ask if anyone has any info on home gyms". So I'd probably like to tack on to Kurty's query on equipment, with a query on if anyone has already worked out/has thoughts on the pros/cons of home gym versus regular gym membership?
