Re: The Andrew Wiggins Thread
I just can't wait to see how Towns and Wiggins gel. I think they could work at both ends of the floor... so freaking pumped right now for this upcoming season.
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

Klomp wrote:One of the things I loved about Wiggins his rookie year was the willingness to go in the lane and poster somebody. That's not a skill a lot of dunkers have. Zach LaVine included, at this stage in his career. Many of the greatest in-game dunkers in NBA history got that status because of their poster dunks, not dunks on the fast break or when no one challenges them at the rim. Wiggins already made that step as a rookie, Shabazz has it already, and I'm hoping Zach can take that next step.
Hard to see Lavine doing unless he grows big hands somehow. Not enough ball control when going up against the outstretched arms of shotblockers.

Re: The Andrew Wiggins Thread
SI: What stood out most from Wiggins during his Rookie of the Year campaign?
RR: "He had a great season. You could see how he grew up. You could see how he was going at guys, going after two or three guys, dunking on them. He really took it over. It was tough for him because the team was losing, but at the same time he learned a lot. That season is going to help him going into next year.
"As a point guard, I want to make his life easier. Try to get him open shots, run the floor, get easy buckets, really get his confidence going. I remember playing with him in the middle of the season, when I came back from my injury. We were talking and he said, ‘I really like playing with you. You get me the ball at the right time.'
"He’s proven he can score 20+ points in a game. The thing is: How easy can he get them? I’m going to try to make that happen so that the team can win."

The easier it is offensively for him the better chance we have of him being an impact defender. He is unlikely to be great defensively throughout a game/season as long as he is such a major part of the offense but the less effort he has to exert on offense the better he will be able to perform defensively

I'm going to laugh when AB outplays Wiggins in Mexico for Canada. I think it could happen as Wiggins driving will be taken away just like in college because the bigs can stay in the key whereas AB is designed for these Tourny's. In the international game you usually have to be able to man handle people or shoot the light out neither Wiggins is that good at.

Your going to laugh?... In meaning your expecting him to be a failure on this type of stage Or is this more complimentary of Bennett and his style of play? Like Jordans play was over showed by Barkley's steller play in the 1992 Olympics? As a Canadian and a Wiggins fan I have higher expectations for him then to get over played by Bennett, ultimately I expect this team to play and win as a team first and for most, secondly I believe this coaching staff needs and will find ways for Wiggins to be successful. Not just for this tournament but for the future. I expect team cananda to put Wiggins in position to score in a variety of ways especially cuts, curls, drives, miss matches and on top of that I think Wiggins will have a tip in a game and a load of free throughs. Bennett won't see the minutes he did in the pan ams.

Why would you laugh? It has almost zero meaning to actual NBA play. Do you laugh when Carmelo looks like a god compared to any other player in international play?

That guy must be in direct relation to Bennett, probably his mother. There's no other way to explain the AB love. I saw him post that he was more impressed with Bennett than Wiggins based on some summer workout videos. He actually hates on Wiggy somewhat, probably just jealousy that her boy couldn't make it.

I hope both play well and develop some chemistry and confidence.
We have nothing to lose by giving Bennett a chance to showcase his talent. Worst case he will increase his trade value. Best case, he can make a case for starting 4.

Bennett's Workout vids with drew hanlan do look better than Wiggins with drew Hanlan. Bennett's offensive game looks way smoother. Wiggins has an ugly jumpshot, loose handles and even his drives looked like slow mo, while Bennett had a smooth jumper and even his handles looked nice.

I actually think the International game is superior to the NBA so yes. International Basketball is a man's game where the refs don't favor stars and is much more physical. The NBA ,on the other hand, is like the WWE where the ultimate goal is to put on a show for the fans. In the NBA you get calls for who you are not what you do.

I'm Canadian too but Wiggins to me seems way too cocky for what he's accomplished so far and it makes him hard to cheer for. He won ROY on a terrible team because he was given more minutes than every other rookie out there and was allowed to play through his errors and basically do whatever he wanted too. I'm still not sold on Wiggins he looks incredibly raw on offense to me and i'm not going to jump on the Wiggins train until he shows he can be efficient on a winning team.

Which is the league with the most talent, most popularity and highest level of competition? It's all good and nice that there are aspects that you like, but if you can't produce in the NBA what value does a player have when he is in the NBA?

Michael Olawakandi looked great in practice too. It would be foolish to take anything away from a workout video when it is 1 on 0.

it depends because there are NBA guys who would be shut down in International ball that exceed in the NBA. Wiggins was a pretty weak college player because he couldn't drive in a crowded key due to NCAA rules but he succeeds in the NBA game. I think the NBA favors Athleticism whereas International ball favors skill.

Dont buy what you're selling. There are Euro players that haven't done anything in the NBA because they didn't have the skill or athleticism. Heck even Jan Vesley who was a star overseas, strictly from his athleticism did nothing at all in the NBA.
