No way should they allow a male to female to play in the WNBA. Even after the mutilations its still a larger, stronger frame with narrower hips allowing for more athleticism. WNBA is for women to let them compete amongst themselves despite being naturally smaller and less athletic.

So think both cases would have to come to the NBA. I'm not even sure if the NBA has a "no women" rule does it? Its just assumed everybody would be a man because they are the largest/best athletes. But I remember Mark Cuban trying to bring somebody in, maybe Griner? just for publicity I think. So I would say that the only way to be fair to natural women would be for any transgenders to compete in the NBA, if anywhere. The NBA is just the "best basketball" league, regardless of genders. The WNBA is a league set for the protected class of women only.

Likely athleticism from top to bottom:

-------NBA-------
Male
Male to Female transgender (male frame and hips)
Hermaphrodite
Female to Male transgender (small frame and hips, but roids)
-------WNBA----------
Female

I don't think it is against any nba rules, but it would be a complete media circus. That individual would have to have (atleast) all-star talent to make them worth the hassle.

This is already an issue in track and field and MMA. There's no way male to female transgenders should be able to compete against females. It's unfair.

NBA i believe is sex natural...

WNBA sex matters.

I'm pretty sure a few men have to tried to compete in the olympics as women. It hasn't been allowed.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

I can't wait until the day a skilled, 6'5", 260 lb. MMA fighter becomes a transgender woman and just crushes the UFC female division.

I feel like anyone can play in the NBA if they're talented enough.

For some reason, I feel like a male-to-female trans person trying to play in the WNBA would be a bigger controversy.

Yup. Just because men are just naturally stronger and bigger than women in general, it would be an unfair advantage if a transgender man-to-woman played in the WNBA. For example, someone could seriously get hurt if there were a transgender person as big and strong as Shaq in his prime playing in the WNBA. As for a woman-to-man transition, playing in the NBA, I see no problem with that.

It's a really complex issue. I like conversations like this. It's good to see a good variety of opinions on topics like this.

No, and before you get out your pitchforks... you have to remember that men and women are biologically different. Furthermore, what if Shaq decides to change his sexual orientation in 2015 can he qualify to play in the WNBA?

There is gender testing in the Olympics, etc which is complex. Some have turned out to be men, some women who were wrongly accused because they had too much testosterone even prematurely developed male genitalia, etc.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1207653/Womens-800m-gold-medal-favourite-Caster-Semenya-takes-gender-test-hours-World-Championship-race.html

One form of gender identification, which was mandated for all female olympic athletes by the International Olympic Committee in 1992, tested for the presence of the SRY gene, which is found on the Y-chromosome, to identify males potentially disguised as females. This method of testing was later abolished, as it was shown to be inconclusive in identifying maleness.[4] Nowadays, gender verification tests typically involve evaluation by gynecologists, endocrinologists, psychologists, and internal medicine specialists.
