Hoyas receive early commitment from 4-star Baltimore recruit

As Georgetown attempts to fill out its roster for next season and before the Hoyas land a single 2016 recruit, they are on the board for 2017.

Guard Tyler Foster, a four-star recruit from Baltimore, committed to Georgetown, according to reports.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard stars at Gilman High School. Though currently 2017, the unsubstantiated rumor mill suggests Foster may reclassify for 2016, which may explain the very early commitment.

The final decision reportedly came down to Georgetown and VCU.

While 2017 is miles and miles away, especially in the current culture of leaving school early either for the NBA Draft or another program, it's perhaps worth mentioning that the bulk of Georgetown's is eligible for Foster's freshman season. Only three of the 12 players would run out of eligibility before the 2017-18 season.

Jagan Mosely to Georgetown

Jagan Mosely is headed to Georgetown.

The 6-foot-3 2016 combo out of Jersey City (N.J.) St. Anthony committed to the Hoyas on Monday and said he decided on Georgetown two weeks ago on his visit.

“It was the perfect fit,” he told SNY.tv.

He also considered Harvard, SMU, Georgia Tech, Xavier, Rhode Island and Boston University. Mosely is Georgetown’s first 2016 commit.

Asked what skill set he will bring, Mosely said, “My athleticism, toughness and ability to see the floor.”

Mosely averaged 13 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals per game last season for St. Anthony, which won the North Jersey, Non-Public B title under Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley.

“He is a tireless and relentless worker with a high IQ on and off the court,” St. Anthony assistant Eric Harrield told SNY.tv. “He is tough yet humble and confident in his ability. He’s a young Russell Westbrook who will do whatever it takes to win. He’s a pleasure to coach.”

Predicting the top 10 high-impact sophomores for 2015-16

10. Isaac Copeland, forward, Georgetown

The centerpiece of a heralded five-man recruiting class, Copeland showed up in Washington D.C. last year as Rivals.com's No. 23 player in the class of 2014. Though he endured some rough patches last season, Copeland hinted at his potential to develop into one of the top stretch forwards in the country. He dropped 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds over two consecutive games against Villanova and Marquette in January and recorded 44 points and 24 boards combined during a three-game winning streak the next month to help Georgetown finish tied for second place in the Big East standings and earn a No. 4 seed in the NCAAs after they missed the field the previous year. There should be more minutes and possessions available for Copeland (and other Georgetown players) in 2015-16 with center Josh Smith, who led the Hoyas with a 28.3 usage rate, and forward Mikael Hopkins departing in the off-season.

Copeland is a kid to keep an eye on come draft time. I think he's a first round pick that could make his way into the lottery with a strong season.

The Hoyas nearly knocked-off MD & Duke. The Hoyas looked better than MD and they think they are a team to watch. They will improve along with the Terps this year, don't sleep on them.

Hopefully they can rack up some wins soon because their out of conference schedule has been brutal. It will pay off in the end, IMO, but 1-3 ain't pretty.

Hard to tell how good Georgetown is even based on their competition. Maryland didn't exactly dominate Ryder and Duke even though they're ranked #5 aren't that great and are overrated IMO(they weren't close to Kentucky's level).
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

The system sucks. I'm convinced if he ran a more offensive friendly system, a lot of these kids in the area wouldn't leave. So hopefully they hire someone with an offensive mind.
