Cuadrado is not a bad player like many here thought. He just needed to be liberated from Mourinho's lackadaisical tactics.

Hope he can remain in the starting line up

After today he's found himself a home here and I'm sure he will start many games.
Knew he was a star in the making since his Lecce/Udinese days. Many players do not work out when they go to Chelsea; it was still obvious that he's a quality player even though his move there failed.

I have never been a fan of buying someone in winter (especially coming from a different country and league) and then sending him away in summer if he hasn't performed by then.
I mean he has played like what 600/700 minutes for Chelsea? That's not a fair chance.

They also don't seem to care too much if their new signings are used out of position.
If you are buying Kevin de Bruyne he needs to play offensive midfielder and given the freedom to sometimes move over to left or right wing. Using him at left wing only is a waste. His influence on the game is limited there. He is not a typical winger.

It's like buying a Porsche to drive in the urban city only.

I have sympathy for De Bruyne, but Cuadrado only has himself to blame. He was quite comfortably the worst player I've ever seen at Chelsea and probably PL.

Also outside De Bruyne, there simply aren't many examples of players being signed to play out of natural position. Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Mikel, and Sturridge are four prominent ones, and with exception of Sturridge, all looked better in their new positions than their old. In De Bruyne's case, he had to compete with Oscar and Mata who were at the time better players.

i dont agree with Cuadrado - Mandzukic was much, much better. Cuadrado had a great workrate and did well defensively but offensively he was flat out bad and gave the ball away too many times trying to dribble past people. it is a promising game for him as you have to imagine he will settle in offensively sooner or later.

also underrated game by Evra, he was fantastic all night, and i was wondering why Sandro wasnt playing too.

funny game cuz i also thought Morata was awful for most of the night and should have come off earlier.

Congratz, well deserved.
You gotta be intelligent against Sevilla, as they're fouling like crazy on defense and falling like girls on offense.
Though, if you can keep them under two penalties you might have a shot.

Sounds like the same tactics Atletico used against us when we drew them in group stage.
what's was with all the penalty calls?

Ref was being really harsh in the box, they were all defendable calls, but it's uncommon for a ref to call all 3 as the first one in particular was very borderline. I'm guessing that's why he didn't add too many cards to the pens.

Eh, they build a team that's good at rolling over minnows in the EPL without losing form because they can handle injuries to their stars as they all play best in the same positions, and so are great cover for one another. The problem is that that is also the reason why they suck at elevating each others performance in europe. Sterling is a good step in taht direction if he works out, but KdB was yet another guy who's impact is minimized when he isn't playing between a striker and double pivot as a 10 or second striker.

Atleti taking care of business. Pretty solid team even without the turk.

There are some idiots here who think Buffon is not in his prime anymore

I just got home from work and looking at some highlights. Monchengladbach should count themselves extremely lucky that game ended 3-0. That game should have ended minimum 6-0.

he's not in his prime anymore. He's still very very good though. You can be out of your prime and still be excellent and world class. for example... John terry last year was out of his prime but he was world class.

foye does underrate Gigi though

buffon is definitely not in his prime. He is declining. He still has his great moments though.

My bad. I shouldve made it more clear. I was talking about how Pellegrini used him first few games.
Not about his Chelsea days.

Those who say he is still in his prime havent seen him in his prime. Simple as that. Dude was awesome in his prime. He's still very good these days but compared to his prime he reacts a bit slower.

No, my bad. I misread your post completely

but on topic of De Bruyne playing out of position at City, I think the issue there is they've got another Porsche in David Silva.

Its too bad B.Mo has started the season so poorly its going to make the group that much less interesting, three horse race instead of full 4 teams having odds to qualify.
