Great point. Cubbies are in good position to take control of the series with Arrieta up. Hopefully the bats come come along as well, really dont want to waste one of his starts.

bats? save those for the other starters - with jake we just need to scratch and claw for one run and that will be enough (based on the last 2 months of evidence)

The young talent on this team just doesn't seem to be fazed by anything, or afraid of anyone. After the game 1 loss I was a bit worried as to how they would respond. Kudos to Joe for coming out aggressive in any way and stealing a big inning early on.

"Who's this?"

"This is Jake, not from State Farm".

Let's get Jake a couple of early runs Monday. If they do, all should be well.

If you told me before the play offs we split in St. Louis and it was the Hendricks game and not Lester that we won,not sure I'd believe it. If you told me we'd hit 6 HR with Arietta on the mound and only won by 2, I definitely wouldn't believe it. Funny how things go.

Nice to see the bats come out and the resiliency from the players. Nice to see Bryant and Rizzo get going too.

Hammel going tomorrow. I imagine he'll have an extremely short leash. I really don't even expect five innings out of him.

Lackey going on short rest.

Maddon just continues to pull all the right strings. First game he starts Schwarber. 2nd game he inserts Soler. 3rd game, wind blowing out...Soler and Schwarber both start. After game 1 a young Cubs team could have wilted. So he comes out aggressive on the bases, squeeze bunts (even though Joe claims to hate bunting) etc.

Let's get a win today and end it now. I don't want to see a game 5 in St. Louis.

What a team. Addy gets hurt? No problem, we have ANOTHER top 10 prospect in baseball who can play SS. Then he hits a homer. Amazing.

Hopefully the Dodgers win tonight and Game 5 goes extra innings.

What a payoff for everyone that's followed these guys throughout their minor league careers.

I remember years ago always thinking of possible future lineups with the kids. It would seem silly, surely some of them would bust. But no. Castro, Rizzo, Bryant, Soler, Baez and Schwarber all homered in Wrigley to beat the Cardinals in the playoffs. You couldn't script it any better.

No doubt. I remember moving to AZ two years ago and going to my first Fall League game (because I seriously had no idea what it was about). Bryant was mobbed by autograph seekers, but didn't play. Soler and Russell played. I remember thinking at least I'm seeing the Cubs play in October, even if real October ball is light years away.

Now I'm thinking 12 years ago to the day Matt Clement put us up 3-2 on the Marilins. The take away is anything can happen and Maddon and the Kids showed it's not predestined to go against you. Forget billy goats, black cats, etc. the future is ahead of us.

What a joy. I feel so validated having been patient through the re-build. In Theo we trust. Joe Maddon Zen. Kids came through.
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

edit 7/30/21: okay maybe not, but it was a fun ride nonetheless
