I'm personally a big fan of darker beers like stouts and porters, and also of Belgians. I've also become a very big fan of sours.
It's not that they are so big. I mean, I have friends who don't like them and there simply are people who wouldn't have ever had one. But it's just that the microbreweries make them and they are the most acclaimed beers among the snobs. They definitely are much more popular in the US.
Porters might be the one style our region is known for. A "Baltic porter" is sort of a known commodity, although the name's etymology seems to have more of a historical meaning rather than that we make a huge variety of them nowadays.
But, yeah, there are good stouts and porters on our side of the world. I like them just as I like any kind of good beer but I guess I prefer other types. If I have a night where I want to drink a variety of beers, I'd probably have one or two though.
