I was thinking:

To Philly (Deal Landry, Wroten, Cannan)
-Derrick Rose

To Chicago (Deal Rose, 2 2nds)
-Devin Harris
-Tony Wroten
-Isiah Canaan (waive)
-Salah Mejri (waive)

To Dallas (Deal Harris, Mejri)
-Carl Landry
-2017 Chicago 2nd round pick
-2019 Chicago 2nd round pick

There is no way Philly is swapping Landry for Rose without incentives.

I think you would love to take a chance on Portis
I think it's pretty good value wise if they want a decent player back (Monta), but can't see them using Portis to move Rose.

I really liked Portis coming out of the draft, but not so much so that one would consider eating the contract of Derrick Rose, unless they saw Derrick Rose as more valuable than he likely is.

Who are the 3 guys Chicago is waiving before this deal is done to facilitate it? Remember, they cannot go over 15 players at any time. So, they'd have to cut 3 players off their roster currently in order to legally do the deal. That's why you don't see a lot of 1 for 4 kind of deals during the season. The offseason generally has a 20 man roster limit.

I think either of the deals mentioned, where Philly gives up Landry and some small fillers (Wroten/Canaan/Thompson/Sampson) to bring in Rose and some incentive (above mentioned picks) could really work.

Yeah I think if at the deadline for some unforeseen reason, the Bulls decide to put TONS of cap space around Jimmy Butler, Nikola Mirotic and the young guys (Portis, Snell, McDermott) then trading Rose would be the best way to accomplish that especially if Pau Gasol decides to opt out. Hinkie seems like the kind of guy that would be all over that if he can extend cap space to 2017 and add a first round pick or two as the absolute worst case scenario.

Agreed.

And to a much lessor degree Dallas isn't turning the very useful Harris and a bargain big man into Landry for just a couple late distant 2nds either. One can argue if they should or not, but the FO definitely wouldn't do this.

I am not high on Derrick Rose as I think most all the regs here know. And I'm also not super high on Kemba Walker. And I think Rose benefits from a change of scenery and going to play for a team owned by Mike I think might hold some interest and motivation to a Chicago guy.

So Rose/2016 CHI 1st(lotto protected) for Kemba and Marvin Williams. Charlotte gets a potential upgrade at PG and the type of box office attraction its difficult for them to get in FA. Chicago gets a guy who gives them most of the production Rose does, but at half the cost and because he doesn't have an MVP, they can bring in a PG this summer moving Kemba to his ideal 6th man role. Charlotte also gets another pick and is forced to play their younger guys at the 4. Chicago gets a guy who can take some minutes at the 3 but also lets them move another big this year while still having a vet presence.

Really think this benefits both teams.

I'm not even sure someone could argue that the Mavs should do that deal regardless of what the FO would do. Somehow the Bulls are trading Rose and, with the exception of distant 2nds, receiving back all of the positive value assets in the trade.

Well the case for doing it would be that Dallas is desperate for any bigs right now and they have enough PG's to potentially spare Harris plus they can't turn up their nose at any future assets.

Problem is the value is poor and the organization loves Devin.

Except Landry is out until at least January so it doesn't really solve the big man desperation.

Yeah I saw that as a good fit, too, but I wonder if the Bulls would prefer more cap space in 2016. Especially in the deals where they get Joe Johnson that keeps them competitive this season and gives them cap space.

Well, they'd still have plenty of cap space. And it would give them one less hole to fill. I don't disagree that they might not rather just have more cap space. Just thought Charlotte made sense as a partner, but they would have to deal Kemba to make it work for them.

The Kemba Walker deal is the only one that makes a lick of sense for the Bulls. Otherwise, they are innumerably better off holding onto Rose at least until next year when his deal is an expiring one and hoping he gets back to playing well again. The potential for Rose to get back to playing well again (as much of a longshot as you might think it may be) is still so much better than using assets just to get rid of his contract.

Yeah it's really a matter of Chicago's preference in this hypothetical situation because the value is there in the Charlotte deal.

The more I do think about it, though, I could really see things leading up to this being one of those "out of nowhere" deals where the Bulls trade Derrick Rose at the trade deadline. I definitely would see the favorites if such a situation were to develop being Brooklyn, Charlotte, Philadelphia or Sacramento.

Always appreciate your perspective, Cliff. At what point(if any?) do you think the added distractions of everything that surrounds Rose would make it worth it just to shed the guy completely? In other words, do you think its just about his level of play or do you think some of the ancillary stuff should be a factor?

I can't imagine the Bulls attaching assets to dump Rose either. Yeah, Rose's contract is huge, but at only 2 years left it's not long term crippling either. At the very worst case, they wait out 2 years and won't have to hand over any asset. That seems like the smarter play.

Cliff Levingston doesn't get to spend nearly as much time on the Bulls as he used to which helps with perspective in this case. Every team is going to have issues, some bigger than others and some more publicized than others. The reality here is probably that it's not a perfect situation but it's not bad enough to where the Bulls need to give up assets just to dump him.

He still doesn't have any chronic conditions that will prevent him from being an effective player and athlete. He's been cartoonishly unlucky with injuries which have affected his play along with attitude issues. However he doesn't seem to be a malcontent that's poisoning the locker room though. As bad as he's been to start the season at least he's not taking terrible shots left and right like he was last season. Some terrible play can possibly be explained by missing training camp, missing time to get used to the new offense, new coach and having his conditioning affected as well, not to mention still having blurry and double vision.

If he can get his vision back, get his conditioning back and stay fairly healthy, he'll almost certainly not be worth his contract but at least be a passable and sometimes dynamic player. At which case, they're much better hanging onto him at least until his contract is expiring.

Like most have mentioned, it'd include Joe Johnson and Chi would need a PG so Jarret Jack as well, which means Gibson would be included to balance salary and maybe McDermott could be thrown in depending on his perceived value which seems to be going up this season.

McDermott wouldn't be a throw-in piece, if I'm CHI.
