The Hornets VP Pete Guelli seems to be trying to engage the Lin fan base quite a bit.

Remember that contract that the NBA recently signed with TenCent for the right to air/stream games in China? Here's what Pete Guelli tweeted in response to JLinPortal's tweet about the numbers.

JLin Portal @JLinPortal

@PeteGuelli There were ~4M Chinese fans watched #Hornets vs Bulls on Tencent Online. Curious if this is a record?

https://twitter.com/JLinPortal/status/661962455820599296

Pete Guelli ‏@PeteGuelli

.@JLinPortal Looking into those numbers. Will let you know.

I also found these additional comments on JLinPortal.
Briiick wrote:Rumor: there were about 4 million Chinese fans watching the NBA game of Hornets vs Bulls last night, on Tencent online. Note that this was the 1st Hornets' game Tencent online broadcasted sensing/requested by the growing number of Lin fans in China.

CJSHYY wrote:Lin really bring fans to Hornets from China bc before they got Lin, Hornets didn't have that many fans in China.

Dan Cohen wrote:HUH? just shows the scores and stuff in chinese.

Briiick wrote:There is a viewer counter at the lower right corner of each tweet.

Briiick wrote:One can also see from the above link that there were only about 0.6 million viewers watching LAL and 0.2 million viewers on Mav.

Briiick wrote:It's No. 1, and it's 6 times more than No.2 and also more than football viewers at the same time.

I'm not able to follow the links and technical discussions since it leads to Chinese language sites. But if it pans out, that would mean the new contract between the NBA and TenCent provided 4M live viewers in China of the Hornets game last night on the TenCent streaming service, six times more than the Lakers at second place with only 0.6M viewers. Quite an accomplishment for the Hornets to dwarf the Lakers in overseas viewers (at least on TenCent) considering the huge population and market size disparity between Charlotte and Los Angeles.

Looks like Maxxis Tires is not the only corporate sponsor that Lin attracted to the Hornets.

The Swiss luxury watch designer TAG Heuer, who signed Lin a while back and has a designer watch line named after Lin, is following along to give money to the Hornets for courtside advertising.

Dennis Ginobili @manu77728

Jeremy Lin played in front of his TAGHeuer advertising billboard and did the same dribble move...lol

spaceballer wrote:Jeremy really has some dedicated fans. They were worried about the chemistry between Lin, the coach, and teammates. So they donated money to buy a ticket right behind the bench, and sent a Charlotte native to report back on the chemistry and interactions between the coach and players during the game.

The report is by the same guy who bought the 12-game pack to blog about the team, but this ticket behind the bench wasn't one of those 12-game tickets. The donor is anonymous, so no one knows who paid for the ticket behind the bench, but it speaks to the strength and passion of Lin's dedicated fan base that they made this happen just because of concern over how the team was interacting on the sidelines after the 0-3 losses to start the season.

Here's the post-game report:
https://jlinforum.wordpress.com/2015/11/04/jeremy-lin-analysis-hornets-vs-bulls-113/

This is a great read, and says a lot of good things about team dynamics in general, as well as how happy Lin himself seems to be in Charlotte.

I wonder who the anonymous donor of the ticket was. wouldn't it be fun if it was Lin? :)

Greg Pak, film director and comic book writer (wrote for X-Men, Iron Man, Hulk, Batman/Superman, etc.), talks about Jeremy Lin and the Hornets in this interview with Comic Book Resources. Pak just tweeted a link to the video.

Greg Pak ‏@gregpak

Why, yes, I did talk about Jeremy Lin for six minutes with @jonahweiland for @CBR. https://t.co/vZluXm2MOS

alot of writers and nba fans cry murder than the word jackie robinson is utter in the same breath as jeremy lin. Our Greg Pak's statement puts in it beautifully. He is "OUR" Jackie Robinson. with a smile.

I didn't say a word about Jackie Robinson. That wasn't the thrust of my post at all. I was just showing that having Lin on the team brings free press coverage (in this case CBR TV) and celebrity fans like Greg Pak (World War Hulk, etc.) to a small market like Charlotte. Free word of mouth and attention that the Hornets would not otherwise have had. In this case, a spotlight from Greg Pak and his Marvel/DC comic book readers.

If you're going to do some outrage trolling, please do it elsewhere.

If this bickering keeps up this, and any subsequent Lin threads, will be locked and deleted from the board.

Thanks.

So the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1865 didn't exclude Chinese from immigrating to this country? The only exclusion every legislated against a nationality in the history of our country? Japanese-Americans weren't put in internment camps during WWII? And Dominique Wilkins definitely sees Lin as less than human...;-)

Ban me if you must but this statement cannot just linger unchallenged. I mean this with no malice, condescension, or intent of bickering.

Asian Americans have a history of being seen as perpetual foreigners and second class citizens. I don't want to seem like I'm lecturing so I'll just point to some prominent episodes.

- In 1871, over 500 white men massacred 17 Chinese men in Los Angeles in the largest mass lynching in U.S. history. In 1877, a congressional committee investigating Chinese immigration described the Chinese in America as an “indigestible mass in the community, distinct in language, pagan in religion,” “inferior in mental and moral qualities,” who therefore required exclusion “for the good of the public.”
- In 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act is the first time in U.S. history that the country bans immigration based solely on race.
- In 1898, in United States v. Wong Kim Ark, the Supreme Court ruled that a child born to Chinese citizens in the United States automatically became a U.S. citizen (which is great), but the virulent dissent to this opinion revealed the widespread opinion that the Chinese were second class. More available here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/08/31/donald-trump-meet-wong-kim-ark-the-chinese-american-cook-who-is-the-father-of-birthright-citizenship/
- During WWII, over 100,000 Japanese American, most of whom were U.S. citizens, were forcibly relocated to internment camps, losing all their possessions, due to a racist and unsubstantiated fear of mixed Japanese loyalties. In 1991, President Bush issued a formal apology saying: "In remembering, it is important to come to grips with the past. No nation can fully understand itself or find its place in the world if it does not look with clear eyes at all the glories and disgraces of its past. We in the United States acknowledge such an injustice in our history. The internment of Americans of Japanese ancestry was a great injustice, and it will never be repeated."

This is my last and only post on this subject because this forum is meant for basketball, and this subject is just a straight up downer! But we should not censor the truth . . . it would be, as one poster said, "disrespectful".

OK, we now return to our normal broadcast.

You could have a legitimate discussion about race and US history in the off topic thread, but all these posts should be deleted from this thread IMO.

Overreaction by everybody. History is history. Being ignorant of history is just ignorance most of the time and does not imply racism or even disrespect. Most people are only aware of the portion of history they are interested in anyway. What happens now is more important.

Let's instead discuss what is happening in the Lin world right now.

The 2898th post in the Lin as a Charlotte Hornet has just posted on Clutch Fans. There is still such passion - both for and against Lin - in Houston

They do have some really great contributors there-though. To give you guys a sense of the passion with which Lin (and the Hornets) are discussed there, here is what one person posted today regarding Lin's contributions in first half of Bulls game.

"Jeremy Lin enters game with 3:14 left in 1Q, Hornets up 26-16. By 7:09 left in 2Q the lead was up 53-29 (ie 10 pt lead to 24 pt).

During this period, yes other players scored, and did it without Lin assisting (duh).

But Lin just happened to go 4/4 on FTs, hit a 3pt shot, and assisted for a 3pt shot, a 20ft jumper and for a layup. That's 7 points + 7 points on assists, or 14 out of the 27 points. That's more than half of the Hornets points during this run. That is actually more than the Bulls scored during this period.

He also defended Aaron Brooks into missing two jumpers, secures a defensive rebound to end the 1Q, and blocks a shot on E'twaun Moore's.

In this 8 minute stretch, as the point guard, he pushed the pace and the team scored 27 points, which adjusted for a full quarter is around 40 points.

I would say that he made an impact scoring, distributing, drawing fouls (3 - one each on Brooks, Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott), defending and pushing the overall pace."

Edit - I have edited this post to take out back and forth between this poster and another one, that on reflection seemed unnecessary to include here.
