Re: Ben Simmons
Looks like he has no interest in taking jumpers at all, but FT% is so far over 80 so might be ok in the long run
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

His first step acceleration is flat out ridiculous for a guy his size.
That's the main thing that jumps at you when you watch him play. He's he's just a blur when he turns it on.

Not going well offensively, but literally stuffing the stat sheet everywhere else. I really wish he weren't playing with so many freshmen. If only one of Mickey or Martin had stayed.

I just wish he played for a better school. Imagine him at Duke with Coach K alongside Ingram or at Kentucky with Calipari and Skal

Re: Ben Simmons
Just had 4 points, 16 boards, 10 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks, and fouled out in a loss to NC State. Okay then.
It's really starting to hold true that he needs that jumper though. It's one thing saying 'he's just being unselfish, he can turn it on if he needs to, like his dad said in the opener, but I don't think that holds true. For a guy that's destined to be playing on the perimeter so much, his perimeter scoring arsenal is lacking at this point.
Once he develops it however, I think we're looking at a star. What he's doing outside of the scoring tally is absolutely incredible.

I don't think anyone thinks they're drafting a small forward right away. He's a power forward that can potentially become a small forward. I'm wondering why he doesn't shoot more, but it doesn't worry me at all.

Re: Ben Simmons
10 assists with 0 turnovers, might I add.
I still seem him as a long-term PF. The kid's going to be a star imo, but if he can obtain a legitimate jumper, then he'll be a superstar.
His speed and vision is just ridiculous.

Did Odom have a jumpshot coming into the league? He reminds me of a much smoother version of him with better vision.

Much better shooting yep.
I have my doubts about better vision, Odom was pretty unique.
Simmons is more aggresive probably, but Odom was way better defensively.

Re: Ben Simmons
When was the last time the consensus best player in the draft was THIS comfortable facilitating and playmaking?
Excluding PG's because they need to have that quality, it has to be LeBron right?
All other "#1 players in the draft" are considered so because of their projected scoring impact for the most part.
I suppose Anthony Davis was applauded mostly for his defense but the majority of the time it's about "OMG this guy is going to become a monster scorer".
Watch Simmons play for 2 minutes and it's clear he's a playmaker first and foremost.

Re: Ben Simmons
So a few things.
1.) I would ABSOULTELY love playing basketball with Ben. I was a white boy shooter, who could really shoot and Ben would have given me an extra 5 more shots a game. He looks for shooters and is always looking ahead on the break. If he was just some dude I played pick up with I'd love to play with him. You can tell when someone has a great feel for the game. We would have chemistry I would think.
2.) The Sixers have to get rid of Embiid and Oakfor if they draft Simmons. He would not mesh well with either one I believe. He needs to play point for a small ball team and it is imperative everyone around him can hit 3s. Sixers would have to blow it up if they picked Simmons.
3.) He is going have to learn to shoot and be more aggressive on his scoring. He is too unselfish right now. Maybe it is all part of his plan. Act like he is a bashful shooter then start lightening it up 2nd half of the year to put a strangle hold on the #1 pick haha.
4.) I really like his demeanor on the court. Pretty even keel. Seems like he has his stuff together off the court too.
I think he will be the face of the NBA if he develops a jumper.

The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

You're forgetting about Dario Saric who comes over next season. He also works in the same way. It would be amazing if they could get both players and trade Okafor. Embiid would be a little harder to trade right now. They won't be able to trade him until he actually gets on the floor unless they trade him for pennies. I wonder what SG or PG they would target in a trade (maybe trade for picks).

Re: Ben Simmons
Lamar Odom with less potential (when he was a prospect) but could easily end up surpassing Odom who never really lived up to the potential that you would expect from a guy with his combination of skills and physical tools. Terrific feel for the game and a better athlete than I thought.

Re: Ben Simmons
He may be the perfect player to build a modern team around.
The trend seems to be towards the scorers at the guard positions because small players have speed, smaller hands and better arcs for shooting at distance. The facilatator of the modern game is looking like a point-forward because you may as well have the facilitator be a guy who can't shoot as well as the other players. It's an efficient use of talent.
A team that had him would use max to get the best defensive C they can and then surround Ben with 2 3 and D wings and a scoring-PG.

Just make him essentially a PG on offense if his scoring ability is a problem.

Russell/Simmons/Clarkson would be a very interesting combination.
Essentially what you'd want Julius to be.
