Simmons looking like I do when I play against 12-year-olds who couldn't make their middle school team. For real.

6 offensive rebounds was great to see.
If he plays with that fire against Kentucky, they could knock them off.

Im waiting to see it. I just dont see it yet. He attempted one jumper today so far and it was a wide open 10 footer and he air balled it. I think many people just say, its shooting he will get a jumper sooner or later. But his jumper needs a lot of work. Hes been very quite on the boards tonight as well. And like you said he gets lost on D a lot. Not saying he is a bad player or a bust. I would still take him #1, I just dont know if he is a superstar in the making

The game isn't all about the jumper. And it's not like his jumper is broken either. There's fairly good form in his action.

He has impacted this game in a lot of different ways. He's actually lifted his defence as this games gone on and has been as attacking on the offence as he's been all season so far.

He is playing the point and literally controlling a very poor LSU team.

He doesn't even turn 20 years old until July.

No but having a jumper is a very important skill to have. He falls asleep way to much on D, he just did it again to allow an open layup. Again I think hes a very good player. I would take him #1. His jumper and D are major question marks for me which makes we question if hes going to be a superstar. I do think his jumper needs a lot of work as well, it is bad form.

I recall a lay up moment, perhaps the exact one when watching live and recall commenting that Ben decided not to risk the foul at that stage in the game. I think they had just started to nudge ahead the first time and things were going okay. Great game today by Ben. Hornsby a nice player as well.

100% agree with the bad form comment. it will be difficult to fix.

His form is "bad" compared to a Ray Allen or Steph Curry thats true.. but his form is not broken at all.

Will he ever be a 40% or better threepoint shooter in the nba on significant volume? No propably not.
Can he become a 30-35% threepoint shooter with alot of work and practice?(not great but decent enough to keep defenses honest)
I dont see a single reason why not.

Also there are 4 other Players on the Court at all times. Pair Simmons with 3 or 4( 2 guards a wing and a 3pt Shooting Center like Towns or AD)good Shooters and you will have plenty of spacing. Let him work out of the High Post..he either gets to the hoop or finds the open Teammate.

Anyone think something sketchy is up with D'Angelo Russell saying that Ben Simmons is a year older than him even though every other source says he's 19? He could just not know what he's talking about but he was literally his teammate for 2 years and said it so confidently/without pause.

Here's the quote:

"Ben (Simmons) came when he was a sophomore and I was a junior – he’s actually a year older than me (20). But I knew he’d be a pro right away. He’s so versatile. He was a guy you couldn’t put into a box."

Im guessing he just miss spoke. Maybe he ment a year older than his grade which Simmons is. But we have seen a top prospect lie about his age before with shabazz Muhammad.

If true that would put him over 2 years older than Ingram. Then you would have to think, how much bigger will Ingram be in 2 years and how dominate would he look against college competition in 2 years. That would put a little dent in his potential

I know Ingram is your guy and all but no-one is getting away with that stuff since Muhammad. Muhammad didn't even get away with it. Simmons is what he seems.

Except the current 76ers coach was an assistant coach for the team his dad played for.

Also that would means somebody would have to commit a federal crime and hack into the department of birth deaths and marriages and change his Birthdate.

Now considering there are photos of Ben in the states on holiday as a child they would have had to plan this from the age of 6.

You're pulling at strings now on Ingram it's sad.

I wasn't the one who brought this up. I just commented on it and the first thing I said is I think Russell just miss spoke. I'm a really big fan of Simmons. I just said this wouldn't be the first time someone tried this. Again I think Russell miss spoke

When Russell said a year older I think he just meant class, the age seems like it was put in by the journo since its in brackets.

But even thats not entirely correct.

Our school year starts in Feb so when Ben came over to Montverde at the start of the US school year, halfway through his year 10 (soph), he had a choice to make.

a) Enter Montverde as a junior, which means he would have missed 6 months of education due to the different start dates

or

b) Wipe the previous 6 months and just start your soph season again in a new country with a different education curriculum.

He "only" had 4 assists in that game, but two of them were quite extraordinary.

Jumpshot isn't there (though he's mostly making his free throws which is good) but he's the sort of player you want to build around regardless. Just give him minutes, the ball, surround him with shooters, and figure it out from there. You can start him at 3 or 4 depending on your personnel but really he's your PG.

He's not someone always takes it all the way to the basket for a dunk or simple layup either. His little off-hand floaters and hooks are the kind of shot which can't easily be guarded at any level, so he's not completely dependent on getting to the hoop.

Foul trouble for Simmons early. Looked to strong for Poythress, Labbisere and Lee though.

But LSU as a team are playing a lot more confidently.

I love it when Simmons fakes the hand-off and just explodes to the basket. Very similar action with Griffin/Redick. Tough to defend with a good shooter sprinting into the DHO like LSU did their with Hornsby.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth
