Would've been a travesty if Kemba didn't get named player of the week. The guy has been on absolute fire. Looking forward to seeing him tonight against the other conference's player of the week.

Yea I'm sorry Fats. I wanted to put FTFY but I didn't know if there was something in the college football article about Kemba that I missed. Lol

Really admire Kemba's energy. Haven't seen many players have that kind of energy playing 40+ minutes each on a b2b.

a bit OT, but Fats... is this the best point guard duo we've ever had?

I'm giving minus points to Mo and Kemba for no longevity. Thought that it could have been Bogues + Kenny Anderson (coincidentally, also a half of a season stretch) but found out that that's the year when Muggsy was injured and we seemingly used Kendall Gill as the point (before, obviously, trading him for Anderson).

Muggsy sure had a lot of blah back-ups over the years which makes this easy for Kemba and Lin to take home. the starting spot struggles of the 2000s, imo, don't consist of players at the right points of their careers. young Felton + Knight, young DJ + Felton, young Kemba + DJ don't seem good enough.

the creative swingmen also affect this conversation. if we didn't have the best back-up, we've always had the willing passers and creators at other positions like Diaw, Gill, Cap'n Jack, Batum, Mason, etc.

I'm not fats, but I would definitely think that Kemba/Lin is the best PG duo we've had. Muggsy and Baron never had fantastic backups as far as I know, and in the Bobcats era, we're basically talking about Knight/Felton, Felton/Augustin, Augustin/Kemba, and Kemba/Sessions. Kemba/Lin has to be the best of the bunch.

Let me slightly change the parameters... I would take 2000-01 and 2001-02 Hornets for having the best Point Guard, Combo Guard, Point Forward combination in franchise history.

Baron Davis vs Kemba Walker
David Wesley vs Jeremy Lin
Jamal Mashburn vs Nic Batum

Those 3 combinations are very similar. Davis was bigger and stronger than Kemba, but he was, at heart, more of a scoring PG, than a passing PG, who also struggled at times with his jump shot. Kemba is quicker where Davis was stronger and more powerful. Wesley is a better all-around combo guard compared to Lin. Lin a better in the pick and roll and better pure passer, Wesley a better shooter, especially in catch-and-shoot situations and better defender (and this comes from someone who really likes Lin's defense, but Wesley is one of the more underrated defenders in franchise history). Masburn is simply superior to in every way to Batum, better scorer and passer.

Muggsy never had a competent backup, which was one of the biggest areas of concern for the early to mid-90s Hornets. The list of terrible backups behind Muggsy is just painful. The Bobcats/New Hornets have done a much much better job of always having two solid point guards. Even guys like Jason Hart would have been a big upgrade to some of the crap we put behind Muggsy.

Which former Muggsy backup guard once scored 50 points in a game?

interesting take. I enjoyed it.

and, oh yeah, I was looking through those Muggsy back-ups to refresh my memory. Tony Bennett and Greg Sutton... that's bad. moreover, if you look at the number of journeyman reserve guards (Rumeal Robinson, Steve Henson, Greg Grant) who we brought in, you know that they kept looking and just couldn't find the right man. I wonder what it would have been like if they gave Elliot "Socks" Perry a bit more time. he was decent for Barkley's Suns whenever KJ went down.

It's crazy how much Kemba has improved with having more shooters/facilitators around him. I always thought he was just a midget no D chucker allowed to do whatever he wanted cuz CHA had nothing else to do. Give him some tools and his improvement has been startling as defenses cant just overload on him like in the past. Man now i wonder how good he'd be if he had a competent big man finisher to play with. I'm not talking about Al Jeff who's more of an ISO scorer who doesnt really help others much unless he's getting doubled (and makes the quick correct pass out of it which he doesnt do usually), but a big man like Ed Davis or any other Amare-lite type players who have soft suction cup hands and finishes at the basket very well. Would Kemba still have continuted his ball pounding ways or would he have figured out how to play with a competent big man to develop a solid 2 man game.
