My larger point was that we no longer hold much leverage. The product we're peddling isn't much better than what the rest of the market offers.
If we insist on asking for too much...ORL simply laughs and moves on to the next GM on their call list.
The NBA trade market is finite (only 29 buyers/sellers)...but it's also open and transparent. Magic GM can offer Oladipo to TOR & use our trade offer to gain leverage and get a more competitive deal.
Why would they overpay for a player in a down year when there are a plethora of other options?
We wouldn't do it...so why would they?
Like I said previously you set the value higher than what you are willing to accept and negotiate from there. You never want to start on the low end. The trade deadline is on the 18th.
You haven't listed other viable options in Teague's category, salary, age, contract and available in trade etc. - You gave me a list of names that aren't currently available. I was looking for a list of players (PGs) that are rumored to be on the trade block.
This is why Mannix said teams will simply wait until the 18th to make their offers. Either Atlanta will lower their asking price or these teams will just find another option to fill their needs. If Orlando called to inquire on Teague and Bud/Wes ask for Gordon and Dipo, Orlando just hangs up and starts calling on McCollum, Holiday, Hill, Rubio, Knight, Bledsoe, MCW, Lawson, Russell, Smart, Canaan, Collison, Jennings, Nelson, Galloway, Grant, Burke, Mills and Joseph. Maybe not all are an upgrade over Teague but they likely will not cost as much to acquire making it a net positive deal. It's not like the PG trade market is barren of talent and its either Teague or bust.
And how many trades actually happen before the deadline?
And how many players of that list are actually AVAILABLE? Listing all the NBA PGs tells me nothing.
