Re: Have You Panickers Actually Thought This Through?
Being pedantic, but you mean Hoiberg CCJ, not Donovan. I think your point is correct though. First year head coach who isn't used to the long grind of an NBA season is bound to take its toll on the team. Also Jimmy Butler's injury really took the wind out of their sails.
I think another thing limiting Detroit, aside from the factors you mentioned, is that they don't have a starry high usage offensive player. It's really important to be able to fall back on a player like that. Otherwise your execution always has to be perfect and that's so hard to maintain.
I'm not sure why Indy is doing some scuffling. They have a superstar to lean on in Paul George. Good coach. Good home court advantage. Seems like they've hit a wall.

Paul George isn't really a superstar, though. His past couple healthy seasons, he's gotten off to GREAT starts and then his production has dipped significantly. He's kinda like Wall in the sense that he's capable of being a franchise star, but doesn't really produce at that level.

Would you say that Wall is better than him?
I think those two are the second and third best players in the conference in some order.
I also think Paul George is somewhat miscast as a 30% usage go to scorer. I think he's a modern Scottie Pippen who is best used as a second option facilitator when he's on the ball, shooter when he's off the ball, and primary on ball perimeter defender.

In my metric, Wall's been a little better this season; George has the higher peak, and the slightly higher career rating.
As for where they rank in the conference, it kinda depends on what you mean by "best." If you're talking top-end potential, I might agree. If you're talking about performance this season, they'd be further down the list. Both very good players, of course. Just not at the elite level.

It's possible he just got tired from the grind after coming back from his injury. It's also possible the switching between PF and SF hasn't helped - to make time for Myles Turner rather than CJ Miles. And I'm probably doing Myles and Miles of rationalizing.

Hoiberg, Donovan...like my people. All look alike....
Thanks, stevemcqueen!

Here's Wall and George in PPA year-by-year:
Code: Select all
YEAR WALL PPA GEORGE PPA
1 2606 93 1265 79
2 2386 110 1958 138
3 1602 139 2972 132
4 2980 139 2898 163
5 2837 151 91 37
6 2119 153 2124 146
TOTAL 14530 130 11308 137
The column under their names is minutes in that season.

I know they had a chance to grab 8th seed and gain ground on another team. I know they just lost Beal. But honestly, you all are overreacting. These guys are gelling, kind of like her…

Btw, we have to catch 4 teams below us to get the 9th pick - virtually no chance. Btw, that's a fact - not a panic - for those who haven't thought this through.

Then my first parameter is filled for seeing Ernie get fired. Now we just have to miss the playoffs as well.

Yup -- it's the facts that would make a person panicky.
Btw, where is Millie? Doesn't he need to come in and say it's all because of our injuries?

With the current losing-streak and playoff hopes slipping away, Millie was reincarnated as jarlmaster47 (IMO) The Master has been banned I see, perhaps the jig was up on the entire troll operation.

It was done by a moderator that I don't know (not one of ours). The reason stated was somewhat cryptic. It appeared that there was some history there.
