Mitrione appealing that loss to TB.
I don't know anything about the legalities or regulations. But morally that was a really unjust loss.
In a way, it ought to be a foul to hold your fingers flexed-out for your opponent to run into. Especially, if you've just been stabbed in the eye with those fingers multiple times. I don't think there is an equivalent with any other foul to give analogy. But you can actually pretty effectively control opposite-stanced fighters by using that tactic. People are going to reflexively avoid shifting their face passed claws. Is that the right, "passed"?

Mitrione said he was warned by the ref about rushing into Browne's fingers. But I agree with you. Holding your fingers out like that is threatening to foul (a foul which is unlikely to be penalized) and can limit the other fighter's options for closing the distance. The threat of following shouldn't be allowed to limit the other fighter like that.

Meathead on mmahour. Saying ufc did the same thing to him as Benson. Offered him a beautiful contract number, but it was based on things that he couldn't control and things that were unrealistic (I'm guessing based on whether he could become champion, also wondering if it could be based on ppv buys or something - not sure what else he could have been calling unrealistic, I doubt he believes him getting a title shot or the title are unrealistic). Bellator on the other hand offered him a better number in terms of guaranteed money.
Either way, he said the ufc is currently reviewing his bellator contract and deciding to match or not.

This could fit into so many threads (or possibly deserve its own thread), but Mitrione signed with bellator.
Additionally, Rory is going to test free agency after his next fight. Will not automatically re-up with the ufc.

No way the UFC lets Rory go. He's way to young and talented. They'll match whatever bellator offers, but they'll put him on the dog house for doing it.

The problem is the ufc has been offering these guys lower deals than other promotions, with "the potential to earn more" (presumably through incentives such as winning the title). Who would ever trust the ufc's crack matchmaking team? If I'm Rory, I'm not sure I'd be too confident in a title shot anytime soon. He's lost to the champion twice and there are so many contenders atm. Instant rematch for Condit would sell. GSP's return. People have talked about Nate getting that shot. Woodley has been waiting. There is still Conor out there that you never know about. Luckily for Rory, he is fighting Wonderboy next so he controls that part at least.
That said, if Rory can parlay this negotiation into a headlining fight in Canada. Or else a title shot (assuming he can be impressive vs Wonderboy), then more power to him.

I like Meathead more than I should for a 37(!) year old guy without a top 10 win (open weight failed prospect champ?). Hope he got a good deal, but im not gonna be seeking out Bellator events just to see him.
Rory on the other hand...
I doubt anyone here knows, but does Bellator have a trump card in contract negotiations with the allowance for independent sponsors? The UFC can't possibly match that. Almost like when the UFC could offer PPV points and Bellator couldn't match (though I think they did anyway and it got held up in court. Alvarez?)

Didn't Benson explicitly say that was a big reason he left? No independent sponsors with ufc?

That's a reason he left, but does it actually render the UFC incapable of matching a Bellator offer containing that language?

Ahh I see what you are saying now.
So are the fighters actually going through the 'restricted free agency' part of this? Or did Mitrione just see if the ufc would "match" in terms of, I got a job offer from a competing company, so I take the offer to my boss to match before formally giving my resignation.

IDK what event, but Rashad being penned in vs Glover when Shogun dropped out is the worst trade ever lol.

It's great to see Bellator gaining some momentum in the free agency side of things. If they could snag Rory (I highly doubt it), that would be huge for them. However, the majority of those signings were past their prime or largely irrelevant fighters so to see Bendo guy signed is a good sign for them.

Yea, I feel like I didn't realize how meh Meathead's resume is. He's fun to watch though. Not a guy to go out of your way for, but I'd never complain about him being on a card.

Thought it was the other way around. Glover took the fight vs Shad when Shogun dropped out. Also it's UFC on Fox 19 on April 16. Same card as
Nurmy vs El Cucuay
Machida v Hendo (lol)
Thug Rose v Tecia Torres
Dariush v Chiesa
Cub v Dias
Dodson v Gamburyan
Betch v Pennington
McGee v Ponzinibbio
Should be a fun card

Yea I just meant that Rashad went from a fight with Shogun to a fight with...Glover lol.
There's a reason Shogun refused to fight Glover a few years back.

It doesn't have to be exact terms to match. For Alvarez, Bellator said the could match PPV points and the wider exposure by re-airing his fights on Spike and compensating him in different ways. So they can go to court when the parties don't agree on what matching is.

That's what I was wondering, thanks.
So if Rory (for example) said allowing independent sponsors with Bellator would pay him X, the UFC could match X through other sources of compensation? Higher fight pay, individual Reebok deal, PPV points, whatever.
