I know the front office was hesitant (don't blame them) but Ken Norton pushed hard for Irvin. Interested to see the $

Interesting

I'd rather Smith over Janoris but Janoris would be a step up as well.

Why not both? :D

Nah, I know Amerson has earned a starting gig this year. But that we're in on both of the top CBs in FA tells me we're likely going to nail one, and that's awesome.

Awesome!

Top FA's wanting to take Mark Davis's money - that's a good sign.

Denico Autry and Seth Roberts have been given their ERFA tenders. Also Shelby Harris, Korey Toomer, and Gabe Holmes. I'd expect all but Toomer to make the 53 man roster all season. If Holmes makes the roster though, either Lee Smith or Mychal Rivera is history..

The last couple of days have been very exciting.
I look forward to the rest of free agency and the upcoming draft even more now.

Sean Smith is here.

A+ FA period for Reggie here.
Anything more is a 2nd or 3rd cherry on top.

THis man still has 8 picks to work with.

Smith/Amerson, Carrie/Allen. That is probably a better secondary than last season? Maybe move Carrie to the nickle on passing downs and draft a safety? And the remaining CBs can compete for the dime spot and otherwise fill in.

At least as importantly, if we can get good pressure from the front that will make it a lot easier for our secondary to look good.

Or even better, draft a safety and sign Weddle to a 2-year deal.

Raiders cut Curtis Lofton

Makes sense, we were getting killed by TEs until Lofton was benched and Neiron Ball took over.

I viewed Ball as taking over the Rey Rey in the 2 games he played before he got healthy.

and I viewed Heeney's increase in minutes at the end of the year as reducing Lofton's minutes.

Weddle out - I'm OK not signing him for four years. Deals that long should reserved for younger players than Weddle.

In minor news, we did sign special teams player/backup LB Daren Bates from LA Rams.

Jerry Mac wrote:— Talked with McKenzie about how ominous it sounded when he used the word “congenital” regarding the neck injury of defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr. during Super Bowl week.

He said nothing had ever showed up on any physical through Florida State, the NFL scouting combine or Raiders’ exams.

Whatever happened in that game triggered something,” McKenzie said. “We’re at the mercy of the medical people because it’s a question mark. If it was clear, they would have said, `oh, he’s done,’ or `he’ll be ready to go.’ It’s something that is going to take time, so they can figure it out.”

Donald Penn is back and I think this kicks Gabe Jackson to RG.

My goodness, this line is going to pancake every thing in its way.

I've heard some say that Gabe Jackson will move over to RG and Osemele will man the LG spot. IDK why you want to mess with Gabe Jackson's spot but I'm sure they'll sort it out in camp.

So: Penn/Gabe Jackson/Rodney Hudson/Osemele... and then Austin Howard, Menelik Watson, whoever else fighting it out at the RT spot.

Having a great o-line makes everything easier - makes Carr a better QB, makes the running game better, makes the passing game better. I like it.

We have 4 guys over 325 lbs.. Yikes

Side note, was scanning footballsfuture forum and I saw a new die hard Reggie cheerleader: royalmajesty510

Things are a-changin. I really have no idea what we should do with our 14th pick now that Elliot is likely gone

Would not be shocked at this point if we took A'Shawn, Rankins, or Billings.

1) That's a position of value
2) With a healthy MEJ (knock on wood), hitting on one of those gives us the best D-line in the league or top 2/3.
3) Can't see us going RB or LB there and the value at the safety position is in the 2nd round outside of Ramsey (who obviously won't fall to us).
