Re: Draft Rumors !!!
most all the new and updated mock drafts have us taking Bosa with our pick. I'm already getting ill before the draft. Oh, and this is even better. Half of Cowboy Nation over at the Hoop are also upset with the new mock drafts because Ramsey is off the board before we pick. Boo Hoo. And what's even worse, they want Heargreaves at number 4. That makes me ill also. I have to respectfully shake my head at some fellow Cowboy fans at times and wonder if we watch the same game.

They definitely have some competition in that division. Indy could come back strong (which I expect they will) and the AFC South is really Houston's to lose. Jacksonville has arguably the best QB in the division though, and their defense could be just as good as Houston's this year. If Tennessee would just focus on repairing their OL they could also be in the mix for AFC South champs. I still don't see why they didn't even take a look at Ronald Leary. I think adding him and drafting Tunsil could make them the favorites in that division.

Re: Draft Rumors !!!
A source from yard Barker that writes for the Cowboys, say they are not much interested in Bosa. According to this Zuerlein fellow, the Cowboys have targeted Jack, Ramsey, Buckner and Elliot. Unless they are playing games, looks like one of these guys might be our pick at #4. I only like 2 of them.

Checking in, kids. Work has been brutal.
If true, I'm glad they are looking past Bosa. He just doesn't scream "#4 pick" to me. I'm still not keen on a RB nor DB there either.
Methinks trading down is in play. Nothing supporting that feeling... just a lot of "meh" around #4 unless someone gets a burr up their butts and decides after all a QB is where they should go.

Agreed, I'm not sold on Bosa either. If the rumored trade with the Rams is legit I'd like to see them get the two extra 2nd round picks. A couple of options at 15 could be Shaq Lawson, Darron Lee, or Paxton Lynch.
What would you think about Darron Lee at 15, then with the three 2nd's take Billings, Connor Cook, and Kenneth Dixon.

He's definitely not a finished product. If they're going to pass on a QB early though their only option is to choose from the Connor Cook's or Christian Hackenburg's of the world. Or they could say screw the QB position all together and go with Kellen Moore. Either way they're pretty much **** when it comes to life after Romo (which is likely 2 years from now).

I watched him as I was thinking of the possibility of him getting drafted in the 3rd round.
I'm not exaggerating about this. He looked off one receiver. That was all. The entire game.
As I said - I'll pass.

So who would you take? And in what round?
First - I am completely comfortable with Kellen Moore as the backup this season. Let's not kid ourselves. The Cowboys aren't in the Carolina/Seattle level of the NFC right now. And as BJJ has continued to maintain (and - where he and I are in complete agreement), the Defense should be the focus when possible in the draft (with the exception of a serious need at RB). So I'm not taking a QB in the first round... and not in the second either.
As far as the QB's... I've listened to my PSU friends enough as well as have seen enough of the "I blame Franklin" whining to keep me away from Hackenburg. Dude's not a leader and you absolutely have to have a leader at QB. The guy who intrigues me is Prescott. My worry is that he may be creeping into the 2nd round on many boards. I think that's a little high for him. But if he were there in the 3rd round... I'd have to seriously consider jumping at him unless there was another dire need (RB... Dixon?) there also. Another guy worth taking a look at on Day 3 is Kevin Hogan. I know he doesn't exactly have the "gun" for an arm you would like in a QB but he has a ton of intangibles and there is no question whatsoever about his leadership ability.
But - I wouldn't even have Connor Cook on my board. At all. Watching him in the Cotton Bowl against the Bama defense was all I needed to see.

You still think Prescott will go in the 2nd despite his DUI arrest a couple weeks ago? Not sure I want another substance abuse guy on the team, especially not at the most important position on the team.
Hogan definitely has the leadership qualities just not the talent to be an eventual starter. That was very evident at the combine. His talent level and arm strength remind me of what Jason Garrett was as a player. Career 2nd stringer at best. I'm not sure that Kellen Moore is even that good.
So you're basing your entire opinion on Cook on one game against the National Champions? What about the game against Iowa St?
By no means is Cook the best QB in the draft, and like I said he's definitely flawed. I guess your reasoning for not liking him is throwing me off. There are plenty of reasons to not like Cook, I just think that reason is an odd one.

I go all out on defense like I have said for months. A lot of defensive talent in this draft. This draft is perfect for us. Even if I get my way and get Buckner with our first pick, I still want more defense. Please tell me we don't need more LB's and CB's.

We definitely need as much help on defense as we can get. If/when Romo goes down though it won't matter how improved the defense is. Kellen Moore would lead us to a record between 6-10 and 8-8. Bad enough to suck, but not bad enough to get a great pick in next year's draft.

I've been wrapped up with my Tar Hells the past couple weeks daddy. So if we don't trade down, who do you want? Tell me. If we trade down, we lose out on the 2 best players in the top 10, Buckner and Jack.

You would be surprised how many games a really good defense does for your team. Moore still may just be the best option for us going into next season. A year behind his belt and he does know our system. If Romo does go down, it may not be as bad as you think. Nevertheless, the defense hasn't been pulling its weight for over a decade now. I'm sick of it. The offense has covered up all of the defensive weaknesses for years. No defense, no championship no matter how good the offense is. Always been my motto. Perfect example, last year's Broncos. They won a super bowl with 2 sub par or barely mediocure QB's last year. Dilfer with the Ravens another year. I think we will be just fine if we go all out and address the defense.

You must not have seen Kellen Moore play last year. FYI, he's horrible.

I have one major pet peeve with QB's... and it is with the ones who refuse to look off a receiver. It's one of those fundamental "intangibles" in a QB I look at. Here's the funny thing about the Cotton Bowl. As we are sitting there watching the game, my 17 year old grandson leans over to me midway through the 2nd quarter and says "Grandpa - Cook is staring down his receivers". I've been observing the same thing... but here's my point. When a 17 year old high school offensive/defensive lineman sees it, you think a well coached defensive back isn't seeing it too?
We differ in our viewpoint on this one Mr. B... I just think Connor Cook is "a guy". In three years he'll be out of the league.

That's very possible. Like I said he is flawed and I also have my concerns about him. Well I have concerns about any QB outside the top 3. Two things that jumped out at me about Cook. One is that he didn't participate in the Senior Bowl. It came across as he was shying away from the competition. If he had gone out there and competed against Wentz he could be right in the conversation with Paxton Lynch, as far as a late 1st round prospect.
The other thing is his rep of being extremely arrogant. To the point that his own teammates didn't really like him. To me that screams Joey Harrington.
The Cowboys HAVE to find a quality backup or possible heir apparent to Romo. The longer they wait the deeper the grave they're digging for themselves. In spite of their flaws I think Cook, and Hackenberg have the skill to be as good as AJ McCarron who did a good job stepping in for Dalton. McCarron will never be a full time starting QB (or at least shouldn't be) or franchise QB but he's good enough to step in and hold the fort down while the starter is out. That's what the Cowboys need. If they stick with Kellen Moore they are completely screwing themselves and the fans over.
