It has to do with

1) in terms of style, he is the closest to Jordan we will see for a long time. A poor man's Jordan for sure but a lot of people aren't basketball savvy enough to spot the clear differences. The NBA desperately wanted the next Jordan and it obviously is better if that player is in the LA market.
2) LA market and all of the hype that goes along with it.
3) Other better players(Duncan/KG) of the past 20 years, tougher for fans to identify with since they are 7ft tall and in the case of Durant not extroverted.
4) probably a bunch of other factors that I can't even think of.

Celtics managed 48 wins with IT. They'd get 55-60 for sure with Curry. He's insane.

That 12 3PM in 1 game still eludes Curry. I would like to see him get 13...he can do it tonight.

How do you make 400 threes in a season . Very impressive by Steph Curry.

I don't have the stomach to watch it but this Kobe finale sounds like a truly grotesque exhibition.

KG has zero argument for being better. Duncan can be seen as better, but there are arguments that could go in Kobe's favor as well

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

Please. 2004 is a HUGE argument. When KG can win/contend with the junk he played with that is a huge argument.

The advanced stats favor KG as well. How many championships would KG have had if he played with Shaq and then Gasol/Odom/Bynum/Artest.

KG played with junk for most of his career until he arrived in Boston in 2008.

Jazz should start looking themselves in the mirror. If you can't make the playoffs with this core in an abysmal West season, when do you can?

I'm glad the Jazz were eliminated from playoffs before the game. It would have been unfair to fight for a playoff spot in that circus. This whole season has been like a Kardashian show.

So I heard on the radio that Kobe scored 60 points and I couldn't believe it. The I checked the box score. 50 shots, 21 of them threes. Unreal.

Last night has got to be one of the most eventful final regular season game day in NBA history:
• largest comeback (26 points) for the entire season (#LetsGoCeltics)
• fighting for East playoff seeding 3 thru 6 (#DeathtoDivisions)
• fighting for West playoff seeding 5 thru 8
• battle for 3rd worst record (#ThankYouBrooklyn)
• Wolves set season-high record in points (144) in a regulation game
• Curry makes 400 threes for the season; becomes 1st player in NBA history to average 30+ ppg on less than 35 mpg
• Warriors break all-time single-season record
• Coaches Karl, Wittman, Mitchell all fired
• Jordan McRae, at 25+ yo, becomes oldest player in NBA history to score 35+ points in the 1st 25 games of his playing career
• All Eastern playoff teams end up with 44+ wins, 1st time since 1997.

Yep, that's pretty much it. I don't think I missed anything.

If KG had Kobe's selfish ass mindset -- his stats woulda been wayyyy different. & They were already crazy.

More importantly, i'm not gonna say Tim Duncan isn''t the greatest PF ever, but he was extremely lucky to have the organization he had. If Tim Duncan goes to Minny & Garnett gos to SAS, then Spurs still have 5 rings & Minny is still mediocre. Yes they're are Yin & Yang on the court, but until the past 2-3 seasons, their production is almost identical. Yes Timmy was the better post D type big man, but KG was way more versatile. Still 2 of the top 3 PF's ever.

We seen KG solo (bounced first round continuously.
We seen Kobe solo ( bounced first round, & missed the playoffs.
Never seen Tim Duncan solo.

All it does is show how much the organization matters. GM, Coach, Teammates, Scouts. It all matters so much. Minny was inadequate in everything cept having KG.

A bit aggravating they spent so much time de-valuing divisions, and in the end, it bit us in the butt with the new tiebreaker rules for multiple ties. It really should go by total head-to-head records among the tied teams. I think the Celtics probably would have had the 4th seed if that were the case. Maybe even the 3rd (iffy).

In the end, it's on them I suppose. All they had to do was win 2 out of their last 3 where 2 of them were at home. Sad.

EDIT: Yup, Boston has the best winning percentage when you total up the W-L's between the 4 teams.

Boston - 6-4
Atlanta - 7-5
Miami- 5-6
Charlotte - 4-7

sigh.

The first round in the West is going to be so boring. Huge disparity between the top 4 and bottom 4 seeds - Memphis and Houston have been disaster areas, Dallas and Portland are massively flawed.

Kobe ballhoggin' to the end.

The most selfish, self-centered, and self-aggrandizing player in NBA history? Probably.

The end of an era. Hopefully.
