None of the other leagues, except for La Liga which now has a great finish in store, have provided anything more entertaining. But you're right that the traditional talents (Hazard/Sterling/Costa, etc.)/big teams have floundered, but I'm glad that a different breed of talent has replaced them.

If you're going to make that argument, you might as well argue it's been a poor year for football in general.

Competition doesn't necessarily equals quality. Yes, exciting race to the title but the quality has been pretty low

As a Spurs fan I obviously can't be objective about this, and I understand that entertainment =/= quality, I apologise if it seemed like I was making that argument because I know that it's fatuous and subjective.

The only gauge of inter-league quality is said to be in Europe. We have two English teams in European semi-finals for the first time in a while. City beat PSG and Liverpool beat Dortmund, both were expected to lose. That's better than expected, I think. Either they're lucky, or the PL isn't as bad this year as people make out.

The quality has been mediocre across Europe except for the top 3 in La Liga if you really want to be a stickler about it. But yeah at least English teams have had a stronger showing in Europe this year.

dont know if it is true for other big leagues, what team really disappointed in italy? their top teams more or less performed up to their abilities, with napoli exceeding expectation by a bit. same situation in spain. you can say maybe wolfsburg disappointed in germany but they lost their best player and is not a consistent team to begin with. in england teams with the most talent had seasons that range from mediocre to downright horrible.

I don't know how anyone who's watched those players routinely this season can say that the quality is horrible, but to each their own I guess.

They all played great football in this season but it is just not enough sample to say they are all great players. I believe most of them can't perform at this level for another year or two.

If we make best XI in other top leagues, this team would get destroyed.

Sounds like the comment from a person not watching the league games.

If Chelsea and Manu were top of the league and they had 4 players each in the team it'd be fine.

And these comments elsewhere about the Prem being weak and the big teams being poor - yet England still have a team in each of the european competitions and neither of them are the best teams in the prem. :banghead:

It's the team of the year not the team of the century. The right players are there.

I think you'll be eating your words over the next few years as Spurs win the CL.

Now you've done it. Spurs collapse and failure to qualify for CL incoming. :D

I'm just happy qualifying for it for the time being. I mean, we've had some crazy talented players over the years but they've all left (Berba, Modric, Bale, etc.), so we need to prove that we can hold on to this core group before we can talk about future European challenges.

There are no world class players left in the PL.

But next year they'll have the best managers(Guardiola, Mourinho, Klopp.) which is probably as important as the players.

You don't consider Aguero or De Gea world class?

Aguero is a flop for Argentina.

De Gea is going to join Real Madrid soon, dont you think?

So what? La Liga routinely have 2 to 3 teams in the semis of the Europa league and have won it 3 straight years, also not with the best teams in Spain. Are we throwing a party over Liverpool making it now.

I'm impressed with City making it this far, but that's the exception not the rule.

It has nothing to do with Man U and Chelsea, these players certainly deserve it but this looks like an Europa league squad more than a fearsome best XI.

Also, there are world class players in England. They all just had injuries or underperformed. Guys like KDB, Aguero, Sanchez are easily world class

They signed Suarez.... They needed to clear space and funds. Of course they'd sell him. Suarez was worth it
