Re: Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion
If there is one thing that Mitch has taught us over his tenure here, it is that the guy is not in the business of losing trades. That is, of course, not to say that he never lost any trades, but the trades he makes usually look pretty favorable or at least dead even when it is consummated. I sincerely doubt that he is going to start giving up first round picks and young talent for second tier players now just because he has those assets. Not to mention, with the cap space he has available, he can sign a couple of second tier guys without giving up anything. I don't know what will or will not happen this summer, but I am pretty sure second overall pick in this draft, multiple picks in future years and Clarkson for Jimmy Butler is not gonna happen.

Liking Ingram more by the minute. The biggest thing you could probably say is his weight, but at only 18, he's going to fill out much more in due time. However, that doesn't stop him from being fearless and going to the basket with authority. Doesn't play soft.

Re: Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion
Who is our center of the future? One of the reasons we sucked so badly last year is the fact we had the most hideously God awful center in the league in one Roy Hibbert.
Who is going to fill that role for us?
Just an average center might improve us 6-8 games.
Russell will be fine and so will Randle. Clarkson and Nance off the bench is also fine. I'm super excited about Nance's potential going forward.
Please don't say Hassan Whiteside! Guy is sauce!

- Noah can probably be had for a reasonable price.
- Ezeli - will cost a good amount of $$$ to have the Warriors not match.
- Zaza - same as noah
- Biyombo - interesting
- Mozgov - don't think so
Most of the FA centers aren't long term solutions. I wonder if Larry will see a lot at the 5 next season?

I like this kid a lot. At this point I think he's the better choice between him and Simmons.
If Durant is capable of being a durable NBA superstar as gangly as he was coming out of Texas there's no reason to think Ingram couldn't be also.

One of the things that makes the NBA so amazing is how different one superstar is from the next. Magic and Bird played more than a generation ago and the league hasn't seen two players like them since. I'm not saying the league hasn't seen players as good as Bird or Magic but the closest we've seen to Magic is LeBron and perhaps the closest we've seen to Bird is Dirk and while there are plenty of similarities their games certainly don't mirror one another.

Do you think we will end up trading this pick?

Magic every day.
With these 2, i think Ingram is easier to project because he has a more developed offensive game. Simmons' game is more nuanced because he will impact the game in more ways but also has a huge flaw ( which can be improved )

This seems to be asking who Philly takes, versus who you guys want to take? Am I correct in that reading?
Right now Philly fans are split right down the middle on who to take at #1, so I'm definitely curious who Laker fans prefers to pick versus who they think will fall.

Yeah, the question is basically intended to predict who Philly takes. Our forum is inclined towards Ingram at the moment but they are pretty stoic about the outcome as the decision is out of our hands. I'm sure the popular opinion will fluctuate about 5 or 6 times once the workouts and interviews begin.

Re: Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion
I normally don't watch as much college ball as I did this year but as someone who watched 80 to 90 percent of each player's games I am torn between the two of them. One week I favor Simmons then the next I favor Ingram. I can't imagine how crazy your fan base is going trying to pick between these two.
Like Slava said its going to come down to workouts and even then your fanbase will probably still be split. You guys might be leaning more towards Simmons if it wasn't for the abundance of 4s and 5s already on your roster. You guys are in great position to nab a pick from someone like Boston or Phoenix and get some help at the guard spots.

Re: Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion
Knowing sports fans, we'll go back and forth....and then if the 6-ers take Ingram, Laker fans will be like "aww hell yeah...Simmons will develop that outside shot, and be a BEAST!!" And if the 6-ers take take Simmons...."Nice! Got the better defender, and all around player for our system...good stuff!"
Mixed in with a couple guys calling other peeps morons, and all that. Someone will call Simmons a scrub, and we'll fight about that for a day. Hey....its offseason sports chat...what do you want?

I wonder if mitch is offering the #2pick plus d'lo for the #1 pick. Pair Clarkson with a bigger 2guard in the back court with Simmons and Randle in the front. Everybody can handle the ball. I'm liking.

simmons might force Philadelphia's hand with the whole not wanting to play there. Not sure if that carries much weight just thought I throw it out there

Don't quit your day job to pursue a basketball front office job.
That is really bad value.
